The old Northumberland accent and its wider Northumbrian dialect originate from the early medieval Anglian speech brought to northern Britain by Germanic settlers in the 5th and 6th centuries.
Northumberland's geographical position and its troublesome border history with Scotland kept its rural speech isolated, preserving conservative Germanic and Old English pronunciations that faded elsewhere.

A man jailed for arranging a drive test on A3 audi before stealing at knife point.
Tyler Cooper, 20, of Swindon, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Tuesday (22/09) after pleading guilty to robbery, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and two counts of possession of a bladed article.
He was sentenced to three-and-a-half-years imprisonment. He was also disqualified from driving for 32 months.

This fascinating interview of 77 year old Cornish maid Emanda Billings in 1964 is a great insight into the everyday life of our recent ancestors. She was born in Victorian England (1800s), a world in which we've lost all connection.
The Cornish accent (also called Anglo-Cornish or Cornu-English) developed as local Celtic speakers shifted to English between 1300 and 1750, adopting regional West Country English while keeping a strong Brittonic language substrate. ⏳️
