Thank you, @SenatorRicketts , for introducing the Agricultural Data Privacy Act. "This legislation provides clarity and puts common-sense protections in place to ensure farmers maintain ownership and control of their data,” said NeCGA President Michael Dibbern.
Agriculture is a knowledge business. Farmers and ranchers are the experts. As that information moves online, farmers and ranchers should be able to choose how they share their expertise.
That’s why I introduced the Agricultural Data Privacy Act. My bill would protect this hard-earned intellectual property. It would require producers’ approval before any company uses their data. That means this data can’t be sold or used without farmers’ and ranchers’ consent.
This is a Nebraska Solution Ready for America. It’s modeled after a new Nebraska law—the first of its kind in the nation. This law is now being introduced in states like Iowa, Colorado, and Missouri. It’s time to make it the national standard.

The new survey of 1,200 farmers shows profitability is still uncertain, reflecting the compounding effect of multiple years hardship at the farm gate. Last week in Iowa, I was clear that antitrust laws are to be enforced in this country and that farmers should depend on the price quoted being a result of competition and not collusion. I was honored to join the "Fed Up" hearing, and stand ready to continue engaging to ensure free and fair markets for fertilizer and other critical inputs.
