We're made some great progress over the weekend to deliver better accessibility at Southend East station by installing the new lift shaft and footbridge structures safely using a big crane.

At the same time we took advantage of the line closure by installing the piled foundations at Chalkwell station. These will support the future new lift shafts and footbridge structures which will be installed at a later date.

🚆 The first commercial freight train has arrived at Sizewell C.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 270 metre long freight train rolled into the Temporary Construction Area, marking a major milestone for the project’s new Green Rail Route.
Carrying around 1,000 tonnes of construction material, the train travelled from Tunstead Quarry in Derbyshire and arrived via the upgraded Sizewell Branch Line.

⚠️Network Rail have advised that they require additional access to the Southminster line to prepare for this weekend’s planned engineering works.
ℹ️From tonight, Tuesday 8 September, up to and including Friday night, Network Rail will require access between 23:25 and 05:25, extended from the originally planned 00:30–04:45 access.
As a result, the following services will be cancelled and replaced by rail replacement buses:
- 23:00 Wickford to Southminster
- 05:15 Wickford to Southminster
- 06:05 Southminster to Wickford
