Been heads down building NIM Relay, and this is probably the clearest way to show what we’ve been trying to make. I didn’t want to build another game where blockchain sits somewhere in the background and a token reward gets attached at the end. The NIM itself had to matter. So we made it the baton. In NIM Relay, one runner receives a real 1 NIM baton, plays their relay leg, and leaves behind a server-verified run. At the end, they choose the next route and the next runner, then pass that real 1 NIM forward through Nimiq Pay. Once the handoff is verified, the next runner actually receives the baton and continues the same relay. That means the transaction is part of the game state. It changes who holds the baton. It extends the journey. It changes the Relay Atlas. It gives the next person something real to continue. We also wanted to remove one of the worst parts of crypto games: asking a brand-new player to go buy crypto before they can even understand what you built. So NIM Relay has Relay Grants. New runners can receive a Starter Baton from the Relay Treasury, and small NIM grants can be unlocked through meaningful participation in the game. The goal is simple: remove the onboarding friction, then give people reasons to play, return, invite someone else, and keep the relay alive. The Atlas is becoming a big part of that too. Every route is part of the game world. Every verified handoff extends a baton’s history. As people move through routes, the map becomes a record of what the community has actually done. Players receive a relay turn, complete a quick skill challenge, then pass the relay via a real Nimiq transaction. This transfer isn't a reward; it's the core game mechanic. The experience should feel more like a premium mobile social game than a crypto app. Core idea: One NIM. Many players. One shared journey. When users open NIM Relay, they should sense something awaiting them—perhaps their turn, a challenge from a friend, a beaten record, or their actions contributing to a shared story. The emotion to evoke: I have the baton; I don't want to break the chain. Types of relays include: - Global Relay: a public relay across Nimiq users worldwide. - Quick Relay: a direct challenge between friends. - Crew Relay: groups sharing streaks and progress. - Rival Relay: team competitions. - Daily Relay: a worldwide daily challenge. NIM Relay shouldn't feel like a transaction dashboard. Wallet interactions should seamlessly fade into the experience, avoiding repeated wallet connections.
