Been heads down building NIM Relay, and this is probably the clearest way to show what we’ve been trying to make. I didn’t want to build another game where blockchain sits somewhere in the background and a token reward gets attached at the end. The NIM itself had to matter. So we made it the baton. In NIM Relay, one runner receives a real 1 NIM baton, plays their relay leg, and leaves behind a server-verified run. At the end, they choose the next route and the next runner, then pass that real 1 NIM forward through Nimiq Pay. Once the handoff is verified, the next runner actually receives the baton and continues the same relay. That means the transaction is part of the game state. It changes who holds the baton. It extends the journey. It changes the Relay Atlas. It gives the next person something real to continue. We also wanted to remove one of the worst parts of crypto games: asking a brand-new player to go buy crypto before they can even understand what you built. So NIM Relay has Relay Grants. New runners can receive a Starter Baton from the Relay Treasury, and small NIM grants can be unlocked through meaningful participation in the game. The goal is simple: remove the onboarding friction, then give people reasons to play, return, invite someone else, and keep the relay alive. The Atlas is becoming a big part of that too. Every route is part of the game world. Every verified handoff extends a baton’s history. As people move through routes, the map becomes a record of what the community has actually done. 🚨 @nimiq exploited for $50.4K on Polygon (Sep 16, 2026) Nimiq's swap contracts serve as both the OpenGSN paymaster and the forwarder. Their execute() checks never verifies the user's signature. It relies on the contract's own preRelayedCall to do that. OpenGSN's RelayHub lets any relay choose any paymaster and forwarder. Exploit contract was detected by Defimon 19 minutes before the attack. The attacker staked 1 POL, registered their EIP-7702 EOA as the relay manager, worker and paymaster (an accept-everything paymaster), and set forwarder = the HTLC handlers. Signature checks were skipped, so forged open() requests "from" a swap-liquidity wallet with unlimited approvals to the handlers opened HTLCs for its entire USDC, USDT0 and USDC.e balance. Each HTLC named the attacker's precomputed CREATE2 contract as recipient and used hashlock sha256(0x01). The exploit tx deploys that contract and redeems all three HTLCs with secret 0x01. About $50.4K was taken and consolidated as USDC. Today, NimQuest on @nimiq officially moved homes. For the past few weeks, the app has been running on Cloudflare Workers.dev URL. That was fine while building, but I wanted NimQuest to feel like an actual product with its own identity. So today I moved it to our new lab domain . I also updated the entire product around the new domain. Verified completion receipts now point back to the new canonical domain, even when someone opens them through the old hostname. The old workers.dev URL still works for now too. Instead of breaking existing links, users who visit it get a notice showing that NimQuest has moved, with a direct link to the same page on the new domain. Following our previous update, we can confirm that this security incident resulted in approximately $50.4k in stablecoins being stolen from the liquidity wallet of a Nimiq partner on Polygon. We have filed reports with the relevant security and compliance channels and are actively working to trace and, where possible, recover the funds. Our assessment so far indicates that no additional funds were affected. Given the remaining risk profile, including a frontrunning risk, OpenGSN-based Gas Abstraction for stablecoin transactions will remain disabled across Nimiq Pay and Nimiq Wallet while we implement and review a safer alternative. We will continue to share updates as the investigation progresses.
