2/3 With Russia reportedly expected to extend export ban on diesel beyond Sept ( Bloomberg), and Saudi Arabia managing disruptions on the west coast due to Houthi strikes on energy infrastructure, I would watch for new trends in Syria's oil imports moving forward. Russia has been a top oil supplier to Syria since last year (crude and oil products such as diesel/gasoil) - and I've written on this several times; see one of my works below. Thread 1/4 At least 12 ship attacks/incidents have occurred so far in Sept in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waterways. 3/4 Iran is keeping the risks high along the Omani corridor, as vessels continue to sail. These include tankers willing to take the risks associated with making a transit of the Strait, moving oil out of the region and transferring cargoes in the Gulf of Oman (shuttle operations).

Thread 1/6 Here's a brief tour showing some of the ship attacks in the SoH and Persian Gulf between Sept. 9 and Sept. 21. Attacks between Sept. 17 and Sept. 21 targeted tankers. One target we did not include reportedly involved a crude oil tanker engaged in shuttle operations on Sept. 16. This will be added once I gather a bit more data on it. 5/6 The key piece of information I pay attention to is this: about 7 months into the war, transit through the SoH remains disrupted, workarounds are still needed, and Iran continues to attack commercial vessels. Unfortunately. But this is what data shows. Iran has demonstrated that it can still attack vessels in the Strait and deeper inside the Gulf. A period with fewer attacks does not, by itself, indicate that Iran's influence over the maritime domain is waning. #shipping #IranWar‌ #OOTT
