I have a list of people I've been secretly hoping would join Sam's List. It's a very very short list. One of them just signed up. Gonna play it cool. But this is HUGE for the program ladies and gentleman.

I used to think the most exciting part of building a company would be watching revenue grow. Don't get me wrong, I love that part. But watching something you came up with in a random conversation turn into a real product that strangers actually use? That feeling is pretty hard to beat.

Just got off the phone with a client of an accountant on Sam's List. Their take: "He's good at math. He needs to be more flexible and people oriented. I wish they asked how I'm doing." You're optimizing for AI and removing humans from your process. Your clients are still looking for a human, not an efficient bot. That gap is the whole business.

I see why people are talking about replacing their bookkeepers with AI. One of my bots flagged a $1,500 unpaid invoice and a $8K billing discrepancy. (i won't be replacing mine. but this is exciting)

I've started helping an accounting firm with its sales and marketing. One of the first things I wanted to figure out was whether they actually needed more leads or just needed to get better at converting the ones they already had. Those are two very different problems. And I think a lot of businesses spend money trying to solve the wrong one.

Pulled our numbers again. Between everyone who contacted accounting firms, fractional CFOs, and financial advisors on Sam's List. 78% went to firms with at least 3 published reviews. 58% went to firms with 6 or more. About 13% of firms are capturing most of the leads. If you're on the directory with zero reviews, you're basically invisible. Ask your happiest clients. They'll say yes more often than you think.

two months ago i met a guy who came up to me and said 'hey! my accountant is on sam's list! they're the best!' i said who? he said 8 figure finance 👏 make your customers happy and they'll do the sales work for you

Great to catch up with @NotGoKGreen and learn about what she’s doing with @hi_samslist and other projects. Her company and community have grown insanely fast and after meeting her it’s obvious why. She’s a beast. It’s so cliche, but maybe NYC is actually the center of the universe? This week I’ve met more founders / creators IRL than I have in years. I've looked at so many accounting firm websites at this point that I'm convinced 80% of them were written by the same person. "We provide comprehensive accounting solutions tailored to your unique needs." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. Tell me who you help. What problems you solve. Why you're good at it. Please. I'm begging.

Something I've learned from building Sam's List: People aren't always looking for the accountant with the most credentials or the biggest firm. A lot of the time they just want someone who understands their situation, responds to them, and doesn't make them feel stupid for asking questions. It's amazing how far that goes.

One of my favorite things about building Sam's List is that I get to talk to the people we're building it for almost every day. Sometimes those conversations completely change what I thought we should be working on. It's humbling how often the thing you think customers want isn't the thing they actually need.

The more Sam's List grows, the more I realize how much I don't know. Which is funny because I thought building a company would eventually make me feel like I knew what I was doing. Apparently not.

One of the weirdest things about entrepreneurship is that you can have the best month your company has ever had and still go to bed thinking about the 46 things that need to be fixed.

An accounting firm asked me today if I’d post about them “for free.” Every firm I’ve mentioned on my personal accounts has been for free. If I talk about you, it’s because something you said caught my attention or impressed me. Nobody has paid me for those posts and nobody has ever asked me to make those posts. If you ask me to post about your firm, there's a near 0% chance I'll do that.
