When I was sixteen, I read Horimiya, and in that moment I believed I would live to have a romance of my own. Now I know I shall see twenty-six without one.
None of us know what lies ahead, or what hand will lead us there. A shoujo may move a man, a romcom may claim a son, but a man may also move himself, and only then does his own yearning truly begin.
Remember that however you pine, your soul is in your keeping alone. Especially through the pain. Without it, take your emotions for melancholic wanting and not for yearning: an ache to do better, to attain what some would call impossible.
When you stand before God, you cannot say, “But I wanted this,” or that the toil of the heart was not convenient at the time. That will not suffice. Remember that.
