Yesterday, Friday 25 September 2026, I had the honour of representing the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Sports, Hon. Eng. Cuthbert Abigaba, who had been delegated by the Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Jacob Markson Oboth, at the official closure of the 30th Makerere University Business School Annual International Management Conference at Imperial Golf View Hotel, Entebbe.
This was a privileged assignment. MUBS is a national asset in management education, research and professional formation. As an alumnus, I was proud to stand with the Principal, the Conference Chair, faculty, researchers and visiting scholars as they marked three decades of this conference under the theme of knowledge revolution, innovation and sustainable development in Africa.
On behalf of the Speaker and the Committee, I conveyed Parliament’s appreciation to the MUBS fraternity for a successful research agenda and a well-executed conference. Scholarship that stays on the shelf does not serve the citizen. I therefore challenged researchers to convert papers into actionable policy and measurable results on the ground, and invited them to serve concise policy briefs to parliamentary committees, beginning with the Committee on Education and Sports.
Parliament legislates and oversees on the strength of evidence. When universities place usable knowledge before committees, oversight improves, appropriation becomes more precise, and public programmes stand a better chance of delivering for learners, workers and communities. That is the bridge this assignment asked us to keep open.
I thank the Rt. Hon. Speaker and Hon. Eng. Abigaba for the confidence placed in me, and I thank MUBS for the courtesy extended. I look forward to receiving the policy briefs that should now follow this conference.
