Iranian atheist. My main goal in life is to see the US embassy in Iran open again. Liberal. Non-binary. Loves literature, cinema, and video games. (they/them)
1) I created a Substack
2) In the honor of his ongoing funeral, I wrote an article about Ali Khamenei summarizing my feelings about him. I would appreciate if you read it and tell me what you think. Link in the first comment.
If Dems win the Senate, will Republicans have time to swap Alito with another judge before the new Congress swears in? Especially if the control comes down to Alaska and it's not clear for two weeks
I'm genuinely worried that we might be governed by a certifiable literally insane leader in the future. Losing his entire family, getting severely wounded, months of complete isolation in the bunker, and having almost absolute power thrusted upon him. It can happen.
These are my 9 favorite albums. Might seem incoherent, but I just want to be honest. These are the albums that I listen endlessly to on repeat and never tire from them.
other cultures shouldn't be treated like a sacred cow, yet they should be treated with respect.
except that people even remotely give a fuck about the very concept of cultural appropriation in a very limited amount of cases.
Cultural appropriation is a nativist backward idea and hand downs the worst idea considered "woke". No, people can't and shouldn't dictate how others engage with the ideas of their culture. Cultural exchange and adaptation and updates are good.
People are responding to these conservatives (that's what they are) "Oh it's reasonable for you to dictate how people modernize your folklore but believing in curses is a bridge too far", no it's not reasonable, in fact believing in curses is much more reasonable
It's at least internally coherent to think that an idea is a curse and that's why it shouldn't be tampered with. You make no sense, you don't have any true principles and values. You reject nativism for one set of people but accept it for others.
I simply refuse to believe that. I have never seen anyone completely cut off their parents for minor reasons. What I've seen is the parents at the other end mischaracterize things to make them appear minor.
This hasn't hit South Asians yet as far as I can tell. There are obviously good reasons in extreme cases to cut off your elders, but it generally seems like a sad byproduct of individualism & therapy culture.
One example: a grandmother said she was cut off for "offering some parenting advice to her daughter", in reality she had called the granddaughter's anorexia fake and had mocked her suicide attempt to her face. It's always, ALWAYS, shit like this
Are there any ideas you changed your mind on 360 degrees (i.e. you ended up on believing the original idea but after changing your mind to believe in other ideas including the opposite idea)
It's preposterous that people blame me for how my daughter turned out. I abandoned her when she was a baby. How can I be held responsible for how she was raised?
At the beginning I was mystified how there are so many " former gifted students" online but recently I looked up how they determine it and it cleared up. You're basically "not very stupid"
