You can't decentralize a physical computer. It's still a machine in a room, running under someone's control. But you can decentralize computation. If independent machines execute the same deterministic logic and agree on the result, the computation no longer depends on any single computer. That's the deeper idea behind blockchains. The @Polkadot ecosystem is taking this further through its work on JAM and Polkadot Products, spanning permissionless computation, verifiable services, content-addressed storage, identity, and other network capabilities. There are two ways to build in the blockchain industry. Optimize for the next cycle, or build infrastructure meant to last beyond it. Gavin Wood has argued that there is no meaningful middle ground. Polkadot's JAM is his case for the long-term path: a more general, permissionless computational model designed around shared infrastructure, verifiable computation and services rather than optimizing the architecture around today's applications. The more data a system collects, the better its AI can become at extracting even more data. That creates a self-reinforcing spiral: More data → better AI → better extraction → more data. Breaking that cycle requires more than privacy policies. It requires different technology. Polkadot's JAM doesn’t replace parachains, it gives them a new home. The Parachain Service would let multiple parachains run on JAM while sharing its infrastructure and security.
