Your elected "leaders" don't listen to you. WHO are they beholden to? Find out here...every ballot in the country. Another incredible resource from @leahfiles
It has been months in the making, but today I launched the 2026 Midterms Candidate Due Diligence website. midterms.theleahfiles.com For far too long we have not had a comprehensive side-by-side picture of who is funding our candidates, who pays for them to get elected, their stance on issues we care about, and many more important factors. So, I built what I could not find: a page for every single person on your ballot, showing exactly who is paying for them. Pick your state and you get your voting rules, issues on your specific ballot this midterm, a map of your congressional districts, the measures on your ballot and what they actually do, and a profile on all 2,517 candidates for governor, Senate and House. For each candidate it shows where their money came from and who wrote the checks, what outside groups spent for them and against them, the companies and nonprofits they own out of their own financial disclosure, and where they stand on the issues with the vote or the quote behind it. Every number links back to the filing it came from. If something is missing or something is wrong, tell me and I will fix it. Finalizing some of the smaller elections now, but it's 80% done. It is free and the site doesn't ask for donations. But if you would like to support my work you can subscribe to my Substack (link in bio) or buy me a coffee at buymeacoffee.com/theleahfile… I hope you enjoy!

REPORTER: 'What is the number one issue for American voters in the midterms?' Trump: 'I don't know.' The blatant level of disconnect is astonishing.

Social Security was sold as a program offering retirement annuities that American workers would buy for themselves. FDR called the 1935 Act “compulsory contributory annuities.” The Senate Finance Committee chairman said the worker would know “he himself is providing for his old age.” The government’s own poster promised “a monthly check to you for the rest of your life.” The sales pitch was successful, culminating in Congress passing the law that created the Social Security system. Then when the government’s lawyers went to court to defend the program’s constitutionality, they told a very different story. In Helvering v. Davis (1937), the Supreme Court—essentially adopting the government’s reasoning—upheld the program as a tax and a spending scheme. Writing for the Court, Justice Cardozo explained that the payroll taxes go into the Treasury “like internal-revenue taxes generally, and are not earmarked in any way.” The 1935 law left Congress at liberty to “alter, amend, or repeal” any part of it. In 1960, the Court closed the loop in Flemming v. Nestor. Benefits are not property and not a contract. Paying the tax does not give you an account the government cannot touch. Congress, in other words, can change the deal at any time. That’s quite the bait-and-switch maneuver. Social Security was sold as an annuity. Then it was defended and upheld by the Supreme Court as a tax and a benefit—one that the government can dilute or modify at will.

At 47 he paid the SEC $20 million for a tweet a jury later found him not guilty for. If he hadn't paid, Tesla would have gone bankrupt the same day: His CFO told him the banks would pull every credit line instantly. He calls it a hostage negotiation. Then he explains why the SEC never touches hedge funds. Save this.

🤬🤬😤My wife takes her 2023 RAV4 to the dealership for a recall service. This was for an airflow sensor After finishing they come out and tell her that her horn isn’t functioning and that it would be $145 to diagnose the issue + labor and parts to repair Mind you she knows for a fact that the horn worked this morning The techs specifically said “we checked all the connections and so it’s not that” I told her to decline and bring it home Mind you this is so unlikely to be anything other than a fuse or the fact that they unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in or worse, straight up scamming After testing the fuse and the relay, as well as the clock spring, I take the radiator cover off to inspect the plugs at the horn and what do you know both horns are unplugged The airflow sensor is nowhere near these plugs so there’s zero chance these were taken off as part of the job not to mention they said they “checked the plugs” It’s also impossible they both happen to vibrate loose @Toyota I buy a brand new car from you and this is how you treat us?? I’ll tell you how the FBI survives this: Congress comes up with a bill that increases the FBI’s budget, Trump threatens to primary every Republican who votes against it, and they all fall in line. That is how the FBI survives. It’s all theater… refuse to be a thespian!
Not sure how the FBI survives this. Or whether it should. Maybe it’s time to start over.

Lobbying firms value the relationships and access lawmakers build over years in Washington. Term limits disrupt that system and force influence networks to keep changing, too. Repost if you think relationships shouldn't outlast accountability. #termlimits #termlimitCongress #governmentreform

Look at the manipulative language on the voter ID ballot initiative. Keep in mind, 83% of Americans say they want voter ID. It is entirely uncontroversial. They are lying, claiming it will cost HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS for people to write 4 digits of their DL# on their ballot? LMAO "PROHIBITS CITIZENS FROM VOTING" is the top line. Just a complete inversion of reality. California is like some Orwellian experiment. How is this real?

The debate between young generations and older generations over Social Security needs to be defined by the fact that the government screwed everyone, all generations, by creating a poor system with low return to begin with and then making decisions that lead it to bankruptcy. We are taxed 6.2% our entire working lives for SS, with your employer matching it, and 12.4% of you are self employed. And the payout is pitiful and the entire system will be bankrupt in 2032! Every Member of Congress and Senator knows that there are much better ways because they all benefit from a TSP account with massive ROIs leading to potential millions of dollars in their accounts, if they invest, after years of holding public office. No this is not the federal pension. This is the federal Thrift Savings Plan for all federal employees and military service members. If every American had a TSP account, they would be far better off! It takes 218 Members of Congress to pass anything on the House floor, one alone can’t do anything. Imagine if at least 218 Congressmen decided to fix SS and give the American people the same TSP accounts and pension federal workers receive. Now ask yourself why they don’t. Being mad at each other is aiming your anger and frustration in the wrong direction. Everyone should unite and aim your anger and frustrations at the very people responsible, the ones you elect, and hold them accountable.

I showed @FBIDirectorKash the search warrant they served on @JamesOKeefeIII, dozens of pages fully redacted. James was never charged. DOJ/FBI still hasn’t unredacted it. The Trump administration won’t prosecute those who weaponized the system, but can’t we at least expose them?

A few things I found while building the 2026 Midterm Candidate Due Diligence site. Ken Paxton Jr. has raised over $87M from outside groups for this election, AIPAC looks to be buying MD candidates, and AI and Data Centers are buying Darline Graham. Jeff Yass and Miram Adelson lead the individual contributors with Elon Musk in the top 4. And nationally there is $1.75 billion in outside money this cycle. It's getting messy in the Midterm streets. But you no longer have to be blind to who owns your candidate. You can look each candidate up by state and district. Link to the site is in my pinned post. I hope you all are enjoying it!

Do you want to know what's at stake this November? Right now, House committee dems are developing ideas for potential oversight actions (hearings, leg items, reports, etc). They are preparing *now* for a win in November, so they can begin a full court press in January. This will cover every department and agency action from the routine (eg reprogramming funds from pet programs) to the more involved (Maduro, cartel strikes, etc). The House has historically been the chamber dedicated to the theater portion of “political theater” but if the Dems win, expect it to look like a musical of organized chaos. There will be a lot of throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. And committee leaders will use their positions to figure out what attacks are resonating and which ones aren’t. The focus will be more on the bread and butter issues: healthcare, affordability, etc. And expect House Dems to come together on legislative items to push that message on bills that will allow them to make Senate Rs look like they are against making living more affordable for American workers. The culture wars will also be on the table, but it will be focused less on making points you'd hear from the Western Mass covid conscious bar patrons, and more on constituencies that have traditionally represented core voting blocks for Dems (women, minorities, etc). To the extent there will be any DSA-esque talking points mirrored- it will be those intersectionality issues that connect class-conscioussness with race-consciousness, and framed in subtle and not-entirely-accurate ways like "the disappearing Black middle class." And because no member of this administration will want to cooperate with any policy and/or character assassination attempts by the House, expect support for these efforts from the usual suspects and new players of DC think tanks and advocacy orgs. [Side note: a good tell of whether a "Committee Report" is substantively driven vs theater driven: is it authored by both sides or just one (with minority views), does it lift whole passages or policy points from outside orgs, and was any agency involved in creating it?] To the extent the American people want to see a focus on real, workable policies that *actually* help families and working class Americans, do not look to the House. Assuming the House does flip, and the Senate stays like it (with possibly thinner margins), you can expect even less (no, don't laugh) from Congress next year.
