I’m confused why it’s a huge story that Tiffany wouldn’t let Mary Spicuzza and David Clarey into a PRIVATE campaign event, but it’s not a huge story that the sitting governor’s enraged spokesperson has made it clear that neither I nor Dan O’Donnell are welcome to get on his taxpayer funded GOVERNMENT funded media list so we can find out when and where his press events are. That’s media bias in real time. There are far stronger First Amendment concerns when it’s government doing it, not a candidate. I have a suggestion for Britt Cudaback and Evers. You may want to stop blocking us from your media list because you are on very slippery ice when it comes to the First Amendment. Evers won a lawsuit filed by MacIver Institute over the same thing, but your case there was stronger by far and different because they are a policy think tank. Dan and I are not, and we’ve both been journalists for more than 20 years. This is now looking a lot less like you strategically ruling out a policy think think and more like a wholesale assault against the First Amendment rights of conservative journalists ie viewpoint discrimination. You are trying to prevent Dan and me from being able to effectively do our jobs. You are rigging the levers of government power to disadvantage journalists with a conservative viewpoint. The court in the MacIver case warned that you cannot exercise viewpoint discrimination. The evidence is adding up that you are with every conservative journalist you single out. Britt’s unhinged tirade was extremely unprofessional and far beyond anything Tiffany said. She also has a personal reason to dislike us both because we both covered her alleged relationship with Evers’ chief of staff. Spicuzza has been a reporter since 1996. I’ve been a reporter since 1992. That’s 34 years in case you’re counting. I was a part time reporter for the Milwaukee Journal in college covering three suburbs. I’ve written for just as many credible publications as she has, and am now, and I’ve won just as many if not more prestigious journalism awards, including recent Milwaukee Press Club awards for the best investigative and public service news reporting in the entire state. I have taught journalism for 21 years. I guest host on the largest radio station in the state and write for a variety of publications with more reach than MJS. I present at Wisconsin Newspaper Association conferences on journalism and was selected to speak with international journalists who visited Milwaukee recently. I was on a Press Club panel of journalists. I was asked to host a debate by a TV station, I helped create international social media guidelines for journalism educators around the world. I co-edit an award-winning student publication. Both Dan and I have broken many stories the media followed. Not sure how long David Clarey has been a journalist. But there’s no way it’s longer; he looks really young. Let’s compare audience numbers. Would love to. I don’t think their stories would exceed my audience reach. No chance. Let’s consider Dan O’Donnell. He’s host of the largest reach radio show in the state on the largest or one of the largest stations in the state. He founded an entire news site. Their past guidelines explicitly said radio journalists should be allowed in. Neither of us belongs to any political party. Before being a radio show host, Dan was a news anchor of Wisconsin’s Afternoon News. He’s been a journalist since 2001. That’s 25 years. He has a law degree. I spent 10 years as a news reporter at Spicuzza’s newspaper. I have bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mass Comm. Evers and Britt - you won’t win this fight if we sue you.
