350 kilometers. One kilometer takes me around ten minutes, depending on how badly my feet hurt. Over 350 kilometers, that is roughly 3,500 minutes. Nearly 60 hours alone inside my own head, not counting the moments when I cannot keep moving. People see one foot in front of the other and a heavy pack on my shoulders. But that is not the heaviest thing I carry. I carry the lives of the men I fight beside. I carry the news that comes every morning. Friends lost. Their last moments. russian terrorist attacks across Ukraine. Entire families gone. Sometimes I lie beside the highway, surrounded by traffic so loud that I need a program to isolate my voice for these videos. And in those moments, everything catches up with me. I think about the people we have lost. I scroll through photographs of friends I will never see again. I remember the last time we said goodbye, without knowing it would be the last. I am tired of war. Sometimes I am tired of making these videos. I am tired of asking for help. But I know what happens if I stop. The equipment that keeps my soldiers alive does not simply appear. The equipment that holds our trenches, protects our positions and gives the next man a chance to come home has to be fought for too. Everything out here is consumable. It is damaged, destroyed and lost at a rate that is almost impossible to keep up with. Hundreds of people depend on me to keep showing up, even when I am falling apart.
