Terry Pratchett "The truth may be out there, but lies are inside your head,"

"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK? It's, like, incredible." To "I could sit in the middle of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and kill an entire civilisation, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK? It's, like, incredible."
I always try and think how best to visualise the sycophantic incoherent & inconsistent bullshit a cult and its leader will peddle For his cult the speed at which they decide what they grab / flit between reveals of them as much as of the cult leader

Trump’s past 24 hours of desperation: — posts Sen. Tom Cotton’s cellphone number and tells people to call him over daylight saving time
— again tries to scam voters with fraudulent promises $5,000 checks to every adult citizen if Republicans win the House and Senate
— says if Democrats win it will be “a 1929 disaster” and an economic depression, essentially admitting he believes his term will lead to a Great Depression
— tells a Mobile, Alabama rally to close their eyes and “pretend I’m on the ballot”
— says he’s giving $100 checks to 20 million seniors

On BBC Question Time, Suella Braverman said she does not consider herself English - seemingly because she does not see Englishness as something a non-white person can claim. Yet the cover photograph for her newly launched book, which she most likely would have approved, portrays her several shades lighter than her natural rich, deep golden-brown complexion 🤷‍♂️ The idea that you cannot be English unless you are white was the worldview of openly racist organisations such as the BNP and National Front. It is genuinely shocking to hear a former Attorney General and former Home Secretary give legitimacy to that premise on national television. Perhaps it is less surprising given her time as chair of the European Research Group: an organisation built around division, nationalism and pulling Britain out of the EU. When a Black man born in England challenged her from the audience, saying she was repeating racist tropes, she did not reflect or qualify what she meant. She doubled down. It is also rather sad that someone born and raised in England feels able to call herself British, yet not English - as though Englishness remains a club she can never belong to. So it seems Suella Braverman seems to support the principle of self-identification after all, at least when it is her identity she wants everyone else to respect. Maybe she is a secret trans ally after all 🤷‍♂️

EXC: Members of the Shadow Cabinet say Kemi Badenoch should abandon the Tory commitment to the triple lock. 💫”It’s unaffordable in the long term, of course we should keep our options open,” a member of the Shadow Cabinet told The i Paper. “I see why Kemi’s doing it, but I don’t think we should commit to it so far away from an election.” 💫Another member of the Shadow Cabinet warned the Tory policy commitment is unlikely to last until 2029, when the election is due, “unless a miracle happens and the public finances pick up. We’ve still got to find the money for defence.” 💫 But the timing of an election is exactly why Badenoch is sticking to her guns. Even though Andy Burnham and his No 10 team have spent most of the last month hosing down the idea of going to the country before 2029, the Tory leader and her key allies think the Prime Minister could call an election as soon as next May.  💫 The Conservatives are so concerned about an early election that Badenoch has instructed Tory MP Neil O’Brien to draft the party’s next manifesto. 💫According to an aide, Badenoch’s commitment to the triple lock is because she is “very hot on the idea of contribution”. “It’s the idea that if you’ve paid in, then you have made a contribution and you shouldn’t be penalised for that and that is where we start when it comes to pensions,” the aide added. 💫 As the Tories gather in Birmingham instead of calling this a normal, workaday conference, the party is dubbing it a grandiose “festival of ideas”. 💫Last year, organisers held Badenoch’s keynote speech in a smaller side room to avoid embarrassing photographs of empty chairs, but this year she will deliver it in the city’s International Convention Centre’s 2,200-seater Symphony Hall. 💫This will be the first time a leader’s speech has been held there since former prime minister Theresa May memorably walked out to ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” in 2018. 💫Read the whole piece here: inews.co.uk/news/politics/ad…
