You might remember it from the spoiler post we made when we had finished designing most of it. With him on the design and me on the implementation, we were quite a team! You add your rooms and the spots inside them, like the top drawer, the pantry shelf or the box in the garage. Then you add what's in each one. Next time you're hunting for your passport or the spare charger, all you do is search. After months of effort, we took it all the way from initial design, system architecture planning, to a finished app. We designed the pixel-art themed look, went back and forth on every screen, and then built it properly: • 📷 Photos for items, rooms and locations. • 🏘️ More than one home. • 💾 Backup and restore, photos included. • 🔒 No accounts: your data never leaves your device! • 📱 Install it on your phone and use it offline. When I created Raspbian for the Raspberry Pi, I was excited to help bring low-cost compute into the hands of a next generation of tinkerers and programmers. However, I now despair that a Raspberry Pi can cost upwards of $300 because AI shortages are making personal computing unaffordable. Furthermore, bright young people are being discouraged from learning programming because they are being told it is now a commodity skill that AI will do. I have to ask myself what it was all for. Is this the future we were promised? If so, I'm starting to regret my part in it.
