The Legend of Zelda has been heavily influenced by Christianity from the very beginning. That influence can be seen all the way through A Link Between Worlds, which is the last true Zelda game anyway.
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, directly attacks atheism & indirectly attacks liberalism. The Princess Regent of the Kingdom of Lorule destroyed the Triforce to stop devastating wars between the tribes & Kingdoms of Lorule caused by wars fought between nations in order to control it. It is an ancient artifact of power created by the gods which sustains creation & maintains moral order. Its destruction resulted in a rapid expansion of crime & evil, & caused foundations of physical reality crumbled. You can see in the game the physical decay of geography, and massive expansive of crime, like the Den of Thieves. Akin to cartel organizations today. When you travel to Lorule from Hyrule from the Sanctuary dimensional fissure, you meet the Philosopher who lives in the Sanctuary & he says "no one honors the gods anymore." She realized her error was APOCALYPTIC, & Lorule was saved ONLY when the Triforce was restored along with the traditional religion of Lorule through the efforts of Link the hero. Link, who is literally a chosen HERO predestined by heaven, defeated the dark powers controlling Lorule, whom were basically invited in by the foolish decisions of the Lorulian dynasty, which were an attempt to compensate for the negative effects of the sins of the various nations of Lorule without moral reform. There's a sense in which I would say Link is akin to a Christian Prince, like David or Josiah. The devastating wars fought over control of the Triforce is comparable to the Wars of Religion 1500-1700 between Protestants & Roman Catholics. These wars greatly fueled enlightenment. Liberalism throws out strong loves to avoid conflict. It failed spectacularly. Thanks to the demon of liberalism spawned by the enlightenment, NO moral progress has been made for CENTURIES because the west CHEATED by throwing the baby out with the bathwater. We are CENTURIES BEHIND because of the enlightenment. We live in a world that did NOT reach its apex in the 70s-90s & now the world is on inventible decline. Rather, we live in a world with ongoing unresolved problems, some of which would very likely be resolved or substantially better where it not for the calamities of centuries ago.
Many Christians today are troubled by the perception the Christian church, while in many ways successful, simply doesn't match the level of success that would satisfy their intuition removing the anxiety. 'It really feels like things should be better than they are.' Why haven't we had more success? Why isn't the world better? I realize there is more than one reason, but this is CENTRAL. The apparent "lack" of visible church success is for this reason. We're ARE winning. it's just going to take a lot longer in space & time than it would have had there been no wars of religion & no subsequent enlightenment which prevented the progress necessary to resolve the problem of strong loves. Religion, culture, ethnicity, language, heritage, any anything else that we consider as human beings important enough to kill for.
If Peter, Paul, James, John, etc, could see that 2.5 BILLION people called Christ Lord, they would FALL ON THE GROUND WEEPING WITH JOY! Jesus told 12 men they would in some sense (not by the sword but by the Word), 'conquer the world.' They had no way of knowing how. The most powerful empire in the world, within a generation, would recognize Christianity as an existential threat & take measures for centuries to wipe it off the face of the earth.
I am not making an argument for post-millennialism here. I am using one of my favorite Zelda games to talk about history, church history, to explain our modern world as it is at the moment. I myself believe in MOST of the constituent elements of Premillennialism within a Postmillennial theological framework for the Millennium. Most of the basic elements of Premill are compatible with Postmill, a single, particularly important anti-christ, a specific period of trial, even chiliasm (Jesus Christ ruling from Jerusalem for 1000 years) is technically compatible, just place it 1k years before the millennium ends. Personally, I am not a chiliast. But the belief is itself compatible.
