Big day today with TWO Oxford-led events as part of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC!). Smith school Director @camjhep kicked off with analysis from an incredible paper about the cost of the energy transition. Some key insights 🧵
A new @oxmartinschool study has found:
- Achieving a net zero carbon energy system by 2050 is possible and profitable
- A fast transition to clean energy is cheaper than slow/no transition
- The idea that going green will be expensive is ‘just wrong’

Ground-breaking Oxford University paper (which had a soft launch earlier but now is in scientific journal Joule) deserves enormous air time
It overturns the common thinking that decarbonizing will be hugely expensive. It’s not – in fact it saves us $5-15 TRILLION

We all need data on the world's energy system.
The largely publicly funded @IEA produces excellent data on this – but the stipulations of the energy ministries mean that this data cannot be used publicly.
