Vox populi more sensible than many well-paid commentators.

But as the experts tell us, few are very likely to go back. She is suffering from the same delusion as Starmer. And like Starmer, she will lose those to her left.
Kemi Badenoch appeals to Tories who left the party for Reform UK to 'come home' 'Do you know who else deserves better? Reform voters. Many of them are our people. We let them down and we want them to come back home. They deserve better than Reform politicians 'A year ago those Reform politicians were measuring up the curtains of Number 10. Now, some of them are measuring up the curtains of their prison cells 'Just when you thought Reform couldn't get any weirder there's a convicted fraudster who calls himself Posh George and Nigel Farage 'daddy' 'For those who say unite the right we are not uniting with that. People deserve better'

She is positioning herself explicitly as the rich person’s friend. I’m not sure how many reform inclined voters are going to be impressed many of whose homes are worth significantly below the present level at which their children will have to pay inheritance tax.

I wrote this in June 2024, but I think my historical comparison still holds especially now Badenoch is determined to ‘unite the right’ while Reform is doing somewhat better than simply clinging on. spectator.com/article/does-t…

No historical comparison is perfect, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Conservatives, should they survive, will find themselves suffering one or two further election defeats - and if they do get back into office, Badenoch won’t be the leader.

Indicator of the current state of mind of the Tories...the jugs of Thatcher and Boris have sold out. People less keen on Major, Cameron and May. Truss and Sunak weren't even available for sale.

As well as being a politician and highly successful novelist, don't forget Jeffrey Archer was a pretty nasty fraudster - like his father. In short, he was a crook. Many broadcasters - some who never dared ask him any tough questions - will gloss over that today.
