I reviewed NY's data-center "moratorium" so you don't have to. The bottom line: it's not just a one-year delay for the biggest facilities. It's an open-ended mess that would create permanent obstacles for building even relatively small data processors.

Gov. Cuomo came under huge pressure to commute sentences in his last few years (many/most were about restoring voting rights). This was one of his last commutations, announced in August 2021 after his resignation but before leaving office.

NY's prison system is still a mess. One facility (Marcy Correctional) had an 85.9 percent "incident rate," meaning ~86 workers-comp injuries per 100 full-time employees in a year.

The energy policy from NY progressives is:
-don't replace or upgrade old gas plants
-don't construct new hydroelectric dams
-don't build new nuclear plants
Together that's about 90% of NY's current energy mix. For short, best to call it:

Because, they argue, nuclear is too expensive, too slow, and what-about-the-waste. The same old New Left shit.
When will Zohran's abundance left approach be applied to energy? When will DSA abandon its green NGO advisors on energy issues?

The most remarkable part about this letter is the extent to which NY state lawmakers are back-seat driving the state's energy policy. This group complains about Albany's nuclear subsidies, which were likely unconstitutional, but they're content to file letters instead of bills.

Frustrating that New Englanders pay a massive winter premium for natural gas despite America’s abundant supply, largely because constrained pipeline capacity keeps us from fully benefiting from it.
Perhaps the most important real-life example of "abundance" and "affordability" in recent history is 🇺🇸 natural gas.
Even with the war in Iran, average natural gas prices are expected to be lower this winter than last winter.

"Every option" would include ending the ethanol mandate that drives up costs, wrecks engines and increases greenhouse gas emissions.
Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran. We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices.
That includes suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports, unleashing E-15 everywhere we can, reinstating the $1/gallon biodiesel tax credit, and creating a diesel relief program to help our farmers and truckers being crushed by the high costs.
While doing this, we should also ensure our highway trust fund is replenished, so that Iowans don’t suffer from crumbling roads and bridges while relief comes our way now. These actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end.
I am working every day to deliver bipartisan results for Iowans and I will work with anyone who is ready to tackle this challenge immediately.
