Unrelated, but, when I got to the Dragon Ball episode where Goku met Arale, I was baffled by the choice to have Goku explain the premise of DRAGON BALL to Arale, rather than have Arale explain the premise of Dr. Slump to Goku. Like, I know what Dragon Ball is. I'm watching it lol

My takeaway is that Arale was extremely popular and probably aired on the same channel shortly before Dragon Ball, so Dragon Ball was this scrappy young guest in the well established and beloved world of Arale. Z really must have changed things.
