Just in case it's not clear, this is an obviously correct statement, only people qualified as doctors should be on doctors rotas. In the same way I'm never going to be a nurse, midwife, physio or anything else. The MDT can contribute but not substitute.
Today I learnt that saying only people with a medical degree should work on doctors’ rotas is an extreme, polarising view 👀 Which is weird because I always thought that should be blatant common sense… …or else what’s the point of medschool? 🤷‍♂️

People really hate the idea that there are people who don’t actually want to recover. Most of the time this is likely unconscious - the person does not consciously think “wow I love being ill and I want to stay like this” but being ill can serve a purpose. When I was diagnosed with POTS almost 10 years ago, I joined online POTS groups and quickly found them to be terrible for recovery. Many people are more concerned with being right and proving to everyone that they are ill, rather than learning to manage symptoms and move on with life. These maladaptive behaviors definitely make POTS symptoms worse and disability persistent.
when i got my POTS diagnosis my neurologist told me that i should absolutely not get involved with online communities for it bc most of the people there were obsessed with being sick forever. and at the time i was like wow that’s fucked up huh but actually she was 1000% correct

When you hear people say “let them drown”, this is what those words mean.

Two caveats - People are deprived of their liberty when they are placed in care homes all the time. The “unlawful” here is about a process of authorisation to be complied with - No outsider knows the truth of whether or not the attorney is making decisions in RF’s best interests

Incredibly sad that people are losing their lives to suicide because they wrongly believe their bodies are broken. This is a direct result of the Covid fear-mongering, online echo chambers that share poor research, and mental health stigma. Many people in these online illness communities struggle to accept two things can be true at once. You can be ill and also “extremely neurotic”. A husband just lost his wife and people are upset because he acknowledges she became neurotic and obsessed with her illness. Everyone online is acting like they knew her better than her husband 🤦🏻‍♂️

The reliability argument is always overblown. Ignores results in other specialties that do similar studies, methodology, and the fact classification criteria are not diagnoses.
🚨 Half a century after psychiatry introduced rule-based criteria to standardize diagnoses, inter-rater reliability remains surprisingly low. A new global study of over 1,000 physicians finds they agree on a patient’s diagnosis only 55% of the time. Here is the data 🧵

I can’t remember being more disappointed by any politician. @andyburnham needs to abolish the House of Lords. It’s a vector for corruption. Because that’s what this is. A pay-to-play capture of a UK lawmaker by Silicon Valley’s worst firm.

Meanwhile, @YvetteCooperMP says ‘We’ll look at dementia,’ when asked about making these marginally effective drug treatments available on @NHSEngland inews.co.uk/news/politics/br… via @connie_dimsdale An absolute waste of the tax-payers scarce monies if @NICEComms says they are cost-effective in the new world of 'cost-effective' accounting as dictated by USA IMO

Thanks to @pash22 for bringing this to my attention. @adamjkucharski has absolutely got the experience of being close to someone with dementia with pinpoint accuracy here. A wonderful brief resource.

Of course we are not ready and we shouldn’t be. If NICE (who we entrust with decisions about treatments that offer good value for money in an NHS with finite resources) don’t consider the tiny benefits of these drugs cost effective, we should listen to sense and not emotion.
