Wyndham Clark went right to work with TaylorMade reps on Monday at Memorial, the first time he was at an event after winning in Dallas.
Despite winning at the CJ Cup, he thought his driver was spinning too much.
He was working through these two Qi4D heads, but actually ended up dropping to a 9.0˚ lofted head last week in Canada.
“It’s actually a high loft 9° head and we were just looking to get his spin rates down to like 2500-2400,” TaylorMade Tour Rep Adrian Rietveld said. “So we handpicked the 9° head because we couldn’t do it with the 10.5˚.
“Same settings, same weight setup and everything, we just needed to find a loft setup. We had a fraction less loft.”
He finished 14th for the week at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in SG: Off-the-Tee.
The victory means that all five of the men’s and women’s majors this season have been won by TaylorMade drivers, with Clark joining Rory McIlroy and Nelly Korda in winning four of the five of them with the Qi4D driver. Clark is the only major winner who used the Qi4D without a contract.
What stayed the same was the Project X Titan Yellow 70TX shaft, which he first used in Dallas. He gives Project X their first major title for driver shaft since Clark's last major at LACC.
