Stalin could've easily lived a nice, comfortable life as a priest in Georgia, but he instead committed himself to emancipating the working class from the exploitation of capitalism.
I don't think you understand the history of communism, where it came from, or what happened when the revolutionary struggle for collective liberation became subordinated to centralized political authority.
Communism existed as an idea long before Marx, Lenin, Stalin, or Mao. Its foundations reach back through communal ownership, the commons, cooperative organization, and movements seeking to organize resources around common needs.
The First International brought together competing socialist traditions, including mutualists, anarchists, collectivists, and Marxists. The conflict between Marx and Bakunin exposed the fundamental question of where political power would reside, with workers and communities through voluntary federation, or concentrated within institutions claiming to represent them.
That conflict continued into the Russian Revolution. The Bolsheviks consolidated political authority, suppressed competing revolutionary movements, and crushed the Kronstadt rebellion in 1921, when sailors and workers demanded greater freedom for the soviets.
Kropotkin's anarcho-communism, revolutionary syndicalism, and other libertarian communist traditions developed around principles of voluntary association, mutual aid, and collective self-organization.
You can reject Stalin, Trotsky, Mao, Lenin, and the authoritarian structures they advocated or administered while still defending communism as an ideal of common ownership and collective participation.
Reducing the entire history of communism to a list of revolutionary leaders erases the very people and movements that fought over its meaning.
The central question has always been, Who holds the power, and how do they organize?
If you cannot distinguish communism organized through the people from political authority imposed over them, you're repeating the historical narrative of the movements that consolidated power while suppressing their anti-authoritarian rivals.
