are we really doing this again? plenty of great artists survived the soviet system, but it was very emphatically not good for the contemporary arts
Having bad politics is one thing but Matt Taibbi summarily dismissing 70 years of Soviet art - Chagall, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Prokofiev, Nissky, etc - is the sort of thing that should make anyone with a high school diploma embarrassed to talk to him

OK but not remotely a new phenomenon. at my (southern, boys') prep school in the 90s, no one objected to doing well academically, but to be *seen to be studying* was socially disadvantageous
As someone who did not perform very well in school, I get that you can be smart without being Type A, but I'm loving the new wave of guys insisting that the world should be run by the kid who couldn't sit still and kept turning his eyelids inside out and eating paper.

Don't really want to wade into this but I don't think leftists need to "give up the fantasy of being fitter than the fascists." Half of Trump supporters are obese old people on ventilators.....we can definitely be fitter than them
