The leftists who thought Gritty was epic seem awfully quiet about Liberty Bibberty

Watched the first season of Mobland, pretty good! Brosnan and Hardy are both great, but all my flowers are going to Toby Jones for playing England's dirtiest constable, Bad Detective Chief Inspector.

Soviet art has set the standard for the next millennium and will crush your cosmopolitoid 'taste'

It makes libs incredibly mad when people in communist countries produce great art. You see this a lot when western critics write about Chinese cinema - they’re always desperate to convince themselves the filmmakers are anti-CCP dissidents when they’re simply… not. Lol
are we really doing this again? plenty of great artists survived the soviet system, but it was very emphatically not good for the contemporary arts

ok, genuine question: i have no real familiarity with Chinese cinema, but am interested. Where do you suggest that I start?

Having bad politics is one thing but Matt Taibbi summarily dismissing 70 years of Soviet art - Chagall, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Prokofiev, Nissky, etc - is the sort of thing that should make anyone with a high school diploma embarrassed to talk to him

Also a great way to tell first world countries apart
It's so funny how ambassadorships are basically just a way for Presidents to arbitrarily give their unemployed friends half a million dollars

OK but not remotely a new phenomenon. at my (southern, boys') prep school in the 90s, no one objected to doing well academically, but to be *seen to be studying* was socially disadvantageous
As someone who did not perform very well in school, I get that you can be smart without being Type A, but I'm loving the new wave of guys insisting that the world should be run by the kid who couldn't sit still and kept turning his eyelids inside out and eating paper.

in AP English, it was a contest to see, a) who could do the least assigned reading; b) the most out-of-class reading; and c) still rock that 5 on the exam

Hegseth wants to livestream a public execution for the same reason ISIS livestreamed/posted their public executions: to radicalize & recruit the same demographic of downwardly-mobile, low IQ, credulous 17-27 year old males that ISIS snuff films attracted.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Pentagon says the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed in December.

I know these are just the people who get caught, but I'm kinda shocked how many violent criminals commit crimes where 1.) they'd be the obvious first suspect and 2.) make almost no attempt to get away with it and 3.) never seem to wonder if they should
