As I remind everyone, here is what is left out of this history: Before the game, it was 50/50 Lawrence Taylor would cross the picket line and play. In college, Barry Switzer neutralized LT with the wishbone by optioning him. LT did not cross the picket line or play. This was no joke. This was Bill Walsh being prepared for everything.

Bill Walsh Employs the Wishbone
In the second half of the first MNF game to feature "replacement players" during the 1987 players' strike, the 49ers legendary head coach utilizes the "wishbone" offense against the Giants and head coach Bill Parcells.
Walsh — the architect of the "West Coast Offense", which primarily prioritizes the passing game — decided to use the wishbone [running] offense in order to play to the strengths of his replacement quarterback for the Niners, Mark Stevens.
''The wishbone was something we thought of in preparing for the game,'' said Walsh. ''The first play we ran it, Bill Parcells and I looked at each other and had a quiet moment together. I thought it was entertaining to look at, but just momentarily.''
ABC's Al Michaels, Frank Gifford, and Dan Dierdorf take delight in the moment.
