Geothermal plants in the United States add up to 2.7 GW, and every one of them was built over a natural reservoir of steam or hot water. California's Geysers field, the largest, has run on its own steam since 1960, 13 plants fed by 315 wells. Yesterday a plant in Beaver County, Utah, sent its first power to the grid from hot dry rock: Fervo drilled 14,483 feet down and 5,000 feet sideways, cracked the rock and pumped water through it, 21 days per well against 70 at its first project in 2022. Two more 33 MW blocks are due by January and 400 MW more are under construction for 2028.

Interesting considering the Xi summit. Although they reference lasers, I would consider Cyber over RF to be a superior first layer, as it allows for the pilot to be established and found more efficiently than shooting it down. Similar for nets, this is an $ONDS job with a laser backup.
