Thank you for raising this important conversation
@JosephRyarasa
The changing funding landscape is indeed a timely reminder for the civil society sector to strategically rethink
#sustainability. In this context, strengthening partnerships is no longer an option: it is a necessity.
#Collaboration among Local NGOs, Government, the Private Sector, and Development Partners is essential to optimize resources allocation, reduce duplication, and maximize collective impact.
These shifts are also consistent with the global
#localization agenda, which encourages locally led development, greater local ownership, and the mobilization of domestic resources and expertise.
The future of Rwanda's civil society lies in:
- Reevaluating its relevance and legitimacy,
- Redefining its identity, vision and mission in light of its context,
- Building trust through transparent and accountable systems, processes and governance,
- Forging stronger and more equitable partnerships

I have been following what is happening in the civil society space with interest. Across the world, most especially in the US and Europe many NGOs are merging because funding is becoming harder to secure. Here in Rwanda, many local NGOs are reminded to comply with the new law.
It makes me wonder , are we really informed about what is happening in this sector? These don’t seem like isolated events. They point to broader shifts that deserve public discussion, especially for those who believe NGOs play an important role in community development, advocacy and service delivery.
Perhaps it’s time for a more open conversation about where the sector is headed and what these changes mean for society .
