There is no such thing in international law or diplomacy as a states right to exist! States exist and they are or are not recognized to exist by other states. People have a inalienable right to self determination but nation states do not have a right to exist

I'm not in MI so it's not my fight, but a vote for Rogers is a vote for transphobia, for ICE, for Donald Trump's agenda. It's a vote against healthcare, against workers rights, and against your neighbors If you're gonna do it, just leave the party and become a Republican
I admire Democrats making this choice. I’m supporting Rogers because he is not an extremist. As a father, public safety matters to me. I don’t trust Abdul El-Sayed, but I trust Mike Rogers on the issues that matter most. Mike Rogers has shown he’s willing and ready to work with local Democrats on achievable bread-and-butter issues to improve life for Michiganders. I respect that.

Many centrist Dems would rather lose than be in coalition with the left. Baffling
James Carville says he'd rather have Republicans keep control of the House than Democrats winning the chamber by 5 seats. "I would rather the Republicans keep the House by five than the Democrats win by five, because if that happens, they’re hostage to the DSA. Like, Hakeem cannot move. There’s no place for him to go."

Yeah, drunk drivers hitting these instead of a pedestrian or other car is good
$44 MILLION of your tax dollars to build concrete islands in the middle of a busy avenue in California. They call them “road diets.” Nothing says traffic safety like putting concrete obstacles in the middle of the road. Drunk drivers are going to LOVE these.

A few readers have taken me to task for “missing the point of the film,” which is apparently that Elizabeth Holmes is unknowable and everything is ambiguous. Here’s my response: She went after Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung with everything she had. I was threatened with litigation on a daily basis for months on end. It was a ruthless cover-up of a breathtaking fraud, and she was at the controls. Just a little context for those who have forgotten or didn’t follow the original story. By the way, I loved the film. #BestPicture, IMO.
A ton of people have asked me for my thoughts about “You Can See Everything,” the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Here they are: nytimes.com/2026/10/17/busin… via @NYTimes

If you come out of You Can See Everything siding with Billy Evans on even a single thing you should be placed under a conservatorship
My reactions to You Can See Everything (as someone reasonably familiar with the case having read Bad Blood) — SPOILERS — - about an hour too long - Liz Holmes deserved a lesser sentence. The scale of the fraud was great yes but the harm done was minimal; her investors absorbed the loss. Retail wasn’t harmed and patients weren’t either. She was clearly the victim of a highly motivated and politicized prosecution. Frankly the investors completely failed in their diligence and deserved to lose their money - Liz is genuinely sympathetic. And a pathetic character. She clearly has surrendered all agency and is engaging in some kind of learned helplessness. Seems to bear no relation to the big corporate CEO she was before. Feel bad for her. There seems to be little upside to punishing her so severely. - didn’t remotely surprise me that she isn’t behind the X account. Did anyone think she was? How dumb do you have to be - Amanda Seyfriend was super unsympathetic and I ended up siding with the weird domineering boyfriend over her. Which takes some doing - the film was mostly an exercise in pointless navel gazing about the ethics of making a documentary; I can understand why a film student or a Hollywood obsessive might enjoy it but the stakes felt incredibly low. Shows the real disconnect between what Fielder and Seyfried think matters and what normal people do - Fielder was more interested in making meta jokes about Holmes/Seyfried than actually exploring Holmes’ psychology. The interesting parts of the films (the pre jail scenes) are too short - overall decent but wasn’t really about Liz at all it fell into the too familiar trap of the documentarian wondering about how much to insert himself into the story (gee that’s original) - I am flabbergasted that Fielder expected us to care about whether the subjects should be compensated. “It’s about the integrity of the documentary” uhh dude this is pretty low stakes stuff, also you’re comedian Nathan Fielder who makes a living getting people to beclown themselves, not Werner Herzog.

Because you still require services and benefit from others receiving services IDGAF you paid your house off. You still need roads and cops and and food inspectors and public transit and schools, even if you don't personally use all of them If anything, you should pay even more!
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

“I think that's why you see the Gaza issue beaten like a drum even though there's some relative calm in the Middle East.” We are not dealing with intelligent people
Kmele Foster asks Yemisi Egbewole whether the Dem Party is trending in the DSA's direction: Going into 2028, the DSA—baby gets put in a corner. It was fun, so many seats in New York, yay. Maybe you get one DSA adjacent with Abdul in Michigan. I say if it's anything less than 5 points, then it doesn't count. But anybody running to represent America is not going to seek anybody who's a part of the DSA. I'm okay with admitting they did well. They won their races. They didn't really defeat moderates. Dan Goldman wasn't a moderate. Michael Moynihan: I think that's why you see the Gaza issue beaten like a drum even though there's some relative calm in the Middle East.

Having this happen when I was at a restaurant (server unprompted telling me how much they hate Kathleen Kennedy) is a big reason of why I no longer consider myself a star wars fan, and why I don't associate with any star wars fans irl
No one tells you this but one of the dangers of getting into Star Wars is these guys will randomly walk up to you in book stores and start trauma-dumping about how much they hate this movie. TLJ derangement syndrome is real. Ask a therapist if touching grass is right for you.

This video captures settlers beating Heidi. They clubbed her, kicked her. Pulled her up off the ground to beat her more. Robbed her of all her equipment. If she didn’t have a helmet—and if she was Palestinian—she could be dead.
