HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FRENCH RESISTANCE, HELPING TO SAVE JEWISH CHILDREN DURING THE HOLOCAUST.
Lucien Lazare passed away this week at the age of 101.
Lazare was born in Strasbourg in 1924. During the Holocaust and the Nazi occupation of France, Lazare joined an underground group that helped save Jews from being deported to Auschwitz.
His help was especially focused on helping Jewish children escape the horrors of the Holocaust. He worked with Catholic clergy and families to help place Jewish children in hiding, helping to obtain false identity papers, finding safe houses and hiding places, and moving children toward Switzerland and Spain, where people were waiting for them on the other side of the border.
After the war, he became a well-known historian in France and Belgium and would go on to become director of Yad Vashem’s department of Righteous Among the Nations, which honors non-Jewish Holocaust-era rescuers.

Awad Darawshe was an Israeli Arab Muslim, just 23 years old.
Awad grew up near Nazareth and decided to dedicate himself to medicine, becoming a paramedic and ambulance driver.
On October 7, 2023, Awad served as a paramedic at the Nova music festival.
Despite the horrific rockets, gunshots, RPGs, and grenades, Awad did not flee the site of the Nova music festival. Awad remained to treat the wounded.
As Awad was bending down, treating an injured person, a man from Gaza took Awad's life with no mercy, point blank.
He was just 23 years old.

At least 55 Gazan families held hostages inside private homes in Gaza. Some estimates put the number of hostages held in civilian homes at around 90, nearly 36% of all hostages.

כמה משפחות? לפי מיפוי של אמ"ן ושב"כ עד ינואר 2025, לפחות 55 משפחות שונות החזיקו חטופים בבתיהן. רובן מרוכזות ב-4 מוקדים. נוסיראת עם 18 משפחות, דיר אל-בלח עם 12, חאן יונס עם 15, ושאטי עם 10. חמאס שילם להן, נתן להן נשק, ואמר להן שאם צה"ל מתקרב תהרגו את החטופים ותברחו.

Where did the Palestinian people’s money go? The IMF documented roughly $900 MILLION diverted from the Palestinian Authority’s budget over five years into a special account controlled by Yasser Arafat. And I asked him about the Arafat family’s wealth and luxury in Paris. I’ve actually been there. I went to see the compound myself. This isn’t about hatred of Muslims. It’s the exact opposite. I want better for the innocent Palestinian children who deserve something better than being trapped under corrupt, unaccountable leadership. And that brings us to Mahmoud Abbas. Abbas was elected president in 2005. There has been no Palestinian presidential election since. The Palestinian Legislative Council hasn’t had an election since 2006, while Abbas has increasingly governed through decrees and concentrated power around the presidency. Yet we’re constantly lectured about Israeli democracy and Benjamin Netanyahu.
You can hate Netanyahu.
You can oppose Netanyahu.
You can criticize his policies.
But Netanyahu has repeatedly faced Israeli voters in competitive national elections. Abbas has been in power for more than two decades without another presidential election… WHERE IS THE DEMAND FOR NEW PALESTINIAN LEADERSHIP? Where are the leaders who will fight corruption instead of protecting entrenched political elites? Where are the leaders who will prioritize education, healthcare, economic opportunity and a better future for Palestinian children? Where are the leaders willing to reject terrorism, confront Hamas and actually pursue a peaceful future alongside Israel? Because the Palestinian people deserve better than decades of the same old leadership, the same corruption, the same failed politics and the same excuses. I was confronting him because I want accountability. And if you claim to represent a people on the world stage, you don’t get to walk down 2nd Avenue and hide behind a diplomatic title.
