He’s going to spend days explaining those insulting statements about President Obama. If this is the story the visit will be a negative for him. I expect it will be. Who thinks trashing Obama helps him gain black support? Yeah, I don’t either.
CNN: Abdul El-Sayed called Obama a failure — now Obama is campaigning for him From a 2012 essay after Obama’s reelection: “This leader has perpetuated war, violated our civil liberties, deported more people from our shores than any other president before him, and the list of his failures goes on.” “I have little hope because there has been less change.” He called Obamacare a “watered-down reform that kowtows to the interests of healthcare lobbies” and called the reelection “the rock we chose over the hard place.” In 2020: “We are not, as a country, better off eight years after Obama was elected in 2008 than we were when he was elected.” He also said Obama’s incrementalism helped create the conditions for Trump. Though El-Sayed made clear he had voted for Obama in both 2008 and 2012, he framed that support as a choice of the lesser of two evils against Republican former Gov. Mitt Romney His campaign now: “We stand on the shoulders of giants—and I can’t wait to tell him myself later this month.” cnn.com/2026/10/07/politics/…

Apparently they had cast the wrong guy for the role of Will Hunting.
Ben Affleck reveals he writes Python, understands convolutional neural networks, worked extensively with GPUs, and used his celebrity status to get private looks at Google and OpenAI’s video models “I’ve always been kind of into computers since I was young. Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that. “With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor. “You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something. “That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’ “I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”

There’s something strikingly anti-Western about the Greens’ new position on Zionism. If the creation of a modern state through conquest, displacement and the privileging of one national group makes that state fundamentally illegitimate, why stop at Israel? The United States was built through the dispossession of indigenous peoples. So was Australia. Similar histories exist across Africa, Asia and much of the rest of the world. Conquest, migration, displacement and changing borders are, unfortunately, part of human history. Yet Israel is singled out not merely for criticism, but for a political programme under which the Jewish state itself would cease to exist. That is what makes this position so revealing. The principle being invoked could be applied to dozens of countries, including some of the most powerful Western democracies. But overwhelmingly it isn’t. So what is the consistent principle here? And why does it lead, uniquely, to the conclusion that Israel should disappear?

BREAKING: The Green Party of England and Wales voted today, 1,022 to 813, to declare Zionism a form of racism and to treat it through the same disciplinary process as any other racism complaint. Then it went further. Members were offered an amendment that said this policy could not be used to discipline anyone for belonging to a synagogue that is a Zionist (meaning supporting Israel’s right to exist.) They rejected it, 1,026 to 684. A British political party was asked, in plain words, to promise it would not investigate Jews because of the synagogue they go to, and it refused. Most British Jews are Zionists. The Institute for Jewish Policy Research found that 65% of British Jews identify as Zionist and only 10% as anti-Zionist. Most mainstream synagogues in this country describe themselves as Zionist. So the Green Party has now written a rule that labels the large majority of Jews in Britain as racists and leaves their places of worship open to disciplinary complaints. If any party voted that its members could be investigated for attending a mosque, a gurdwara or a Black church, there would be national outrage and the leader would be finished by Monday. When it is Jews, it gets called a debate about foreign policy. The same motion calls for a single Arab majority state in place of Israel. That is a demand to dismantle the one country that took in my family after they were driven out of Iraq and Tunisia. This is antisemitism, voted through by a party that wants to govern Britain. Zack Polanski is standing in Holborn and St Pancras on Thursday, and he should be asked whether Jewish members of his party are safe from being investigated for where they pray.

When a government refuses to investigate the greatest disaster in the nation’s history, no one should be surprised when mistakes are repeated and failures happen again. That is exactly what the flydubai incident has exposed. Once again, there appears to have been a systemic failure across security agencies, government ministries and senior officials. The passenger list was reportedly sent to the Transportation Ministry before the flight, creating an opportunity to identify the co-pilot’s problematic background. There were also repeated warnings from the National Security Council and others that the state was not taking the threat seriously enough. And once again - just as on October 7 - ordinary citizens stepped up and became the heroes. That is the sad reality in Israel today: the country succeeds despite its government and despite its politicians, not because of them. The question now is whether anything will actually change. Will anyone be held accountable - in the Mossad, the Shin Bet or the Transportation Ministry? Will anyone investigate what went wrong and fix it? Or will we simply wait for the next failure?

Almost a year since the fighting stopped in Gaza, and in the face of a growing pile of evidence that no such thing occurred, anti-Israel activists are desperately trying to keep the genocide accusation alive. This week, three more complications threatened its survival. The question is how much longer they can keep it up. Between March 2 and May 19, 2025, Israel imposed a total blockade on Gaza, betting that they had sent enough food to prevent mass starvation. It did not account for bottlenecks and hoarding. Grain prices skyrocketed. Reports of malnutrition mounted. By July, aid agencies said more than 12,000 children had been identified as acutely malnourished, the highest monthly figure on record. That month, The New York Times ran “Gazans Are Dying of Starvation” on its front page. Its most effective argument was the photo on the front page: a child with a protruding spine, cradled in his mother’s arms. That the child had cerebral palsy, and that his brother, who was not skin and bones, had been quietly cropped out, the Times admitted just as quietly days later. The tens of thousands said to be collapsing from hunger were supposedly buried in the ministry’s count of indirect deaths. This week, the Gaza Health Ministry released the full count. There were no mountains of skeletons. Obviously. Had there been, they would have made the Times’ front page instead of a cropped photograph. In its Annual Mortality Report for 2025, the ministry lists 24,650 registered deaths. Of those, 17,286 are attributed to “war operations” and another 1,584 to accidents. That leaves 5,780 deaths from everything else: heart disease, cancer, old age. Roughly what Gaza buried in a normal prewar year. The report lands two years after 99 physicians wrote to President Joe Biden alleging that 62,413 people had likely died of starvation and its complications between October 7, 2023, and September 30, 2024. A 2024 letter in The Lancet floated 186,000 total deaths. In 2025, the year of the famine, the ministry’s own data shows no meaningful excess of non-violent deaths. The creative accounting doesn’t end there. Take the infant data. Malnutrition accounted for 4.1 percent of infant deaths in 2025. In 2021, it was 4.4 percent. And 2025 was the year famine was declared in Gaza City. The ministry’s report leads with the war dead and highlights an under-five mortality rate that more than doubled. Strip out the war deaths, though, and its own figure falls to 15.8 per 1,000. In 2022, it was 13.6. Over the same period, the ministry registered 50,227 births. By its own count, Gaza’s population grew by 1.2 percent in 2025, faster than the global average. If Israel is committing genocide, it is the most incompetent perpetrator in the history of mankind. None of this means Gazans were feasting for two years. But the most repeated accusations were not “Gazans struggle with imbalanced diet” or “Food grows scarce under war conditions,” because neither carries the rhetorical power to justify any and all action against the accused while absolving the accusers of the burden of proof. The genocide conspiracy had a second pillar. To hide its crime, Israel had to ban the international press and silence the truth-tellers on the ground. Yesterday, the IDF revealed that of the Gazans killed during the war and presented to the world as journalists or media workers, 170 were members of terrorist organizations. 118 belonged to Hamas’s military wing. 49 to Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The remaining three to smaller factions. 17 took part in the October 7 massacre. More than 40 of their deaths had drawn condemnation from the United Nations. I’m sure that now that their identities are known, the rest will receive similar condolences. Some of the résumés are impressive. Amro Nahid Abdel Rahman Abu Odeh worked for Reuters and Turkey’s Anadolu Agency. He was also, per the IDF, a team commander in the photography unit of Hamas’s military wing. The military published two photos of him: one holding a camera, one holding a Kalashnikov. Hassan Majdi Ibrahim Abu Warda filed for the Barq Gaza news agency and moonlighted, according to the IDF, as a sniper in Islamic Jihad’s Northern Gaza Brigade. Others on the list had worked with CNN, the BBC, AP, AFP, ABC News, Le Monde and Australia’s ABC. Perhaps the most important pillar of the genocide libel is its senselessness. Genocides are not waged out of reasonable security concerns, nor are they triggered by atrocities committed by the victims. They are acts of pure cruelty. That is why the genocide campaign has systematically sought to sever October 7 from the Gaza war, and from history itself. Which makes yesterday awkward. For the first time this millennium, a full year passed without a single rocket fired into Israel from Gaza. Perhaps, then, it was a war of security after all, not of extermination. Apply Occam’s razor. There was no mass starvation. There was no war on journalists. And when it was over, Israelis were safer than before. You can explain all of that with one simple word: war. Or you can call it genocide, and simply contort the dwindling pieces of evidence to fit that conclusion. Using Occam’s razor assumes that logic has been the accusers’ goal. Had that been the case, we would never have gotten this far. The question is not when they will recant and beg Israel’s forgiveness, but when the evidence will become so overwhelming that the lie simply cannot be sustained. Speedily, and in our days.

While I can agree with some of this, it is not possible to say the people of Gaza never played a part in the decision-making. Hamas was ELECTED to power. This fact cannot simply be ignored. The world audience also watched cheering and jubilant Palestinians cheer, spit at and brutalize half-naked and mutilated bodies taken at Nova. I, and many others, will never forget.

The better question is: why is redistribution called capitalism when the money goes to people you dislike, but socialism when it goes to people you support? Once you answer that, you may discover you’re blaming capitalism for your own preferred mechanism: government taking resources from some and politically allocating them to others. Bailouts and subsidies don’t become free-market capitalism because corporations receive them. They’re government intervention in markets. And moving further toward socialism hardly eliminates dependence on government funding, it institutionalizes it. You cannot have state ownership of production without the state financing, directing, subsidizing, or absorbing the losses of that production. The free-market correction for a failing company is failure. The political correction is a bailout.

Austin Wells needs to just own what he did. Big moment, big play and he completely embarrassed himself by breaking one of the simplest, well known rules in the game. Don’t get thrown out at 3B with two outs. A high school kid knows that. Little league coaches teach their kids not to do that. This isn’t some advanced concept that the common fan doesn’t have all the information to understand. To try and justify it by saying “I was just being aggressive” is nonsense. He wasn’t being aggressive. He was being stupid. There’s a difference.
"Thought it kicked off more than it did, he made a good play on the ball. Two outs there, trying to make something happen, be aggressive with not much going on in the game. Obviously, love to safe there or standing on second base." - Austin Wells
