BREAKING: DAMN STRAIGHT! Veteran Senator Tammy Duckworth obliterates Trump’s “foolhardy” plan to build a “Triumphal Arch” for “military” purposes — and points out a GLARING risk. This is a total knockout punch… “Wasting time, energy and taxpayer dollars, on yet another Trump vanity project is particularly outrageous given the joint failure of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to effectively implement corrective actions recommended by the independent National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) following the tragic January 29, 2025, midair collision near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA); the deadliest aviation incident in the United States since 2001,”Duckworth wrote in a letter to FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The tragic incident in question occurred when a U.S. Army Black Hawk collided with an American Airlines flight, killing 67 people. Despite the horrific loss of life, the Trump administration still hasn’t heeded the National Transportation Safety Board’s recommendation to require collision-warning technology that could have alerted both crews before impact. They’ve also ignored several other suggestions. Critics of Trump’s hideous, wasteful arch are concerned that the 250-foot monstrosity could endanger aircraft. Since there’s no real case to be made for setting more tax money on fire to stroke his own ego, Trump is now absurdly claiming that the arch will be a military installation with drones, snipers, and an ammunition stockpile. By appealing to vague “national security” concerns, he hopes to run roughshod over opposition. The problem here — beyond the obvious pointlessness of the arch and the absurdity of a President without a single real victory to his name building a Triumphal Arch — is that the FAA determined it would pose no hazards to flights coming in and out of Reagan Airport BEFORE Trump declared that it would be a military installation. Drones launching off the structure could obviously pose a risk to planes and so the FAA ruling is now obsolete. Duckworth, who lost both her legs and partial use of her arm when her Black Hawk was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq, urged the FAA and DoD to “reject this foolhardy plan and instead focus on increasing the safety of the airspace.” “Last month, construction of another wasteful Trump pet project, his taxpayer-funded golden ballroom, contributed to radio failures that allowed Marine One to come within approximately 0.82 nautical miles laterally and 700 feet vertically of a passenger aircraft departing DCA,” the senator wrote. “Unfortunately, it appears that this unsettling aviation safety incident has failed to deter President Trump from prioritizing his narcissistic quest to construct monuments, ballrooms and rename performing arts centers to honor himself.” “Of course, President Trump is not solely disregarding the critical needs to improve aviation safety, he is also ignoring the American people who are struggling to afford gas, groceries, housing, airfare and everything in between,” she continued. “All because of a Trump affordability crisis triggered by President Trump’s disastrous foreign war of choice against Iran, and President Trump’s chaotic imposition of tariffs that raised prices across the board for American businesses and middle-class families.” “How can the Trump administration justify another pet project under the guise of a ‘Military Complex’ that would add to congested airspace in the National Capital Region while the FAA and DoD have not closed out the safety recommendations arising from the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster since 2001?” she added. The answer, of course, is that Trump can justify anything to himself so long as it helps distract from his historic failures as President and the fact that the entire world now knows he’s an Epstein-style pedophile. BREAKING🚨 ABC refused to let eight Epstein survivors speak on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Rosie O'Donnell gathered them and filmed it herself — and the women told her no famous person had ever called to stand beside them. Now she says she will tell all eight of their stories, one by one. O'Donnell guest-hosted four episodes in August and pitched what she called "the Epstein reveal" for her final night. "They said that they were certain that could not happen," she said on the Jann Arden Podcast. "So I said, 'Well, then I'm going to do it myself.'" She called Survivor Sisters, an advocacy group formed by Epstein survivors, and asked how many women could get there in three days. Eight came. They filmed for about two hours. She first posted a short video from the shoot. Andrea Sterling, Sharlene Rochard, Lara Blume McGee, Jena-lisa Jones, Wendy Pesante, Lisa Phillips, Marina Lacerda and Chauntae Davies stood together in white, fists raised, singing Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman." It ended with childhood photos of the women. Jimmy Kimmel later shared it on his own Instagram Story. Now O'Donnell says each woman will get her own up-close segment telling her story. The eight segments could become a full documentary, a YouTube project or something they release themselves on social media. O'Donnell said she made the video after Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Trump's former personal lawyer, said he did "not know whether there are men out there that abused these women." Most people have heard “Uncle Tom” used as an insult for a Black person seen as betraying their own community to gain the approval of white people. But the history behind that name is far more complicated. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom was a fictional character in her 1852 antislavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and one of the real people who influenced her portrayal was Josiah Henson, a formerly enslaved man whose life looked very different from what the insult eventually came to represent. Henson was born enslaved in Maryland in 1789 and experienced the brutality of slavery from childhood. In his autobiography, he recalled his father being violently punished and later sold away from the family. Henson himself was separated from members of his family through the slave trade and eventually became a trusted supervisor on the plantation where he was enslaved. In 1830, after years of trying to secure freedom, he escaped with his wife and children to Upper Canada, now Ontario, where slavery had been restricted and where thousands of Black Americans would eventually seek refuge. Freedom did not end Henson’s work. He became a Methodist preacher and helped other people escaping slavery reach Canada. In the 1840s, he helped establish the Dawn Settlement in Ontario and the British-American Institute, a school intended to provide education and practical training to formerly enslaved Black people. He traveled internationally, wrote about his experiences and became a prominent abolitionist. His 1849 autobiography was one of the slave narratives Stowe later cited as evidence for Uncle Tom’s Cabin, although Henson was not the single person on whom Uncle Tom was based. The meaning of “Uncle Tom” changed dramatically after Stowe’s novel became famous. In the original book, Tom refuses to betray enslaved people even when threatened and ultimately dies after refusing to reveal where two women have escaped. Later stage adaptations, caricatures and racist entertainment stripped away much of that resistance and transformed the character into a submissive stereotype. Over time, “Uncle Tom” became an insult for someone perceived as excessively obedient to white authority, a meaning very different from both Henson’s life and important aspects of Stowe’s original character. There is another correction worth making to the popular version of this story. “Sambo” should not simply be substituted for “Uncle Tom” as the supposedly correct name for a sellout. The word has a complicated history and eventually became a deeply racist caricature and slur used against Black people. Josiah Henson’s real story is powerful enough without replacing one stereotype with another. He survived slavery, escaped with his family, helped others pursue freedom and spent decades working for abolition and Black education. That is the history worth remembering.
