Work will be taking place between the junctions of Chiltern Road and Lower Henley Road, with road closures in place between 8am-5pm on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 September.

Residents are being offered a chance to take part in a project to brighten up an underpass that connects Southcote with Prospect Park.
A new mural in the Granville pedestrian underpass will feature images of flowers, grasses and trees that grow in the local area and include people’s happy memories and positive words about the community.
Members of the public are being invited to contribute to the creation of the mural at Granville underpass on Sunday 4 October, 10am – midday.
Anyone who cannot make it, can still play a part by sharing memories of the area, what they love about the community and positive messages on an online form.

Three new Council-run children’s homes are preparing to welcome their first children.
The homes will allow more children in care to live in Reading close to their school, friends and family rather than having to move out of the borough. The Council will also be less reliant on using expensive private provision miles from Reading.
Care has been taken to ensure the three properties have the feel of a family home.
Two children’s homes will care for up to eight children, including two short term assessment places, and the other will care for up to two children with more complex needs.

Resurfacing of Friar Street is completed and the team will be moving on to two other town centre roads next week.
Blagrave Street will be resurfaced between its junctions with Forbury Road and Valpy Street, with road closures on two nights, between 7pm-1am on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 September.

The team will be upgrading the town centre road between its junctions with West Street and Station Road.

Changes to the layout of King’s Road in east Reading are being proposed to help reduce accidents involving vehicles turning left across the bus lane.
The proposals follow a series of incidents on the main road which have happened both around pedestrian crossings and at left hand turns on the outbound bus lane.
To address the left-turn incidents, the Council is proposing to break-up the eastbound bus lane at the three junctions to allow vehicles wanting to turn left to change lanes 20-30m ahead of the junctions.
This will allow drivers more time to look out for other vehicles and signal in advance of making the turn.
The Council has also worked with Reading College to try to reduce pedestrian casualties at or near controlled crossings.

Our main roads resurfacing programme continues this evening (Wednesday 2 September) on the IDR northbound from the A33 junction.
A full road closure will be in place between 7pm and 1am with a signed diversion in place.
On Thursday, resurfacing will be taking place on the A33 Relief Road, northbound only from the Island Road junction to 175m south, between 7pm-1am.
On Friday and Saturday, works will be taking place on the A33 Relief Road, northbound only, 127m south to Imperial Way, between 7pm-1am both evenings.

Customers at South Reading and Meadway leisure centres are enjoying an upgraded workout following full gym refurbishments, as part of the Council’s transformation of leisure centres across the town.
The two centres have benefited from £250,000 Council investment to ensure a modern, high-quality training environment for Reading’s communities.
The gym upgrades come after brand new leisure centres were opened at Rivermead and Palmer Park in 2023 and 2022 respectively.

Households are being advised to check they are ‘flood ready’ ahead of the change in weather this autumn.
With rain arriving after many months of dry weather, the Council is asking residents to think about their flood risk now, ahead of the wetter months to come, and to do what they can to be prepared for possible problems in the weeks and months ahead.
Weeks of continuous heat have created extremely hard ground conditions which means heavy spells of rain can cause flash flooding as the water runs off hard ground rather than soaking in.

Parts of Reading are expected to see some disruption with waste collections over the coming days due to electrical faults with a large number of fleet vehicles.
Reading Borough Council has taken the precautionary decision to temporarily stand down the impacted electric vehicles while investigations are carried out. Fixes are being worked on which should make more vehicles available today and Saturday.
Vehicles from the Council’s spare diesel fleet have also been deployed to minimise the impact on services, and missed collections are expected to be made this Saturday (29 August).
The manufacturer of the Council’s electric waste vehicles is engaged in search of a solution to the ongoing issues in respect of both immediate fixes and long-term solutions.
