No, this isn't the new Taylor Swift album cover. I've cleaned-up this remarkable colour photo, taken 113 years ago in August 1913, a year before the First World War. It is a portrait of 16-year-old Christina Bevan at Durdle Door in Lulworth, Dorset. It was taken by Lt-Colonel Mervyn O’Gorman using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.
This was one of the first Autochromes I cleaned up for Twitter and I share it again with you because it is such a beautiful image 😍

This is a shocking admission the most this government expects to deliver is a force strength of 8700 by the end of 2027 (i.e. start of 2028).
The government committed to deliver an #LOA2 force strength of 11500 in 2028!! Even with a 500 extra in 2028 itself, that's a shortfall of 2300!!

There's currently 7,800. Aim is to recruit 850 in 2027 and 900 in 2028.
That means 9,550 by 2028 (if for some mad reason, nobody leaves before then)

At the ESDC High Level Course today, discussing the role of the EU Military Committee, the security environment we face and the priorities shaping our work: capability and industrial readiness, support to Ukraine and the EU’s CSDP footprint.
But the value of a course like this goes beyond the formal programme.
It is in the conversations that challenge assumptions, the exchange between military and civilian perspectives and the relationships built across Member States, EU institutions, agencies and CSDP missions and operations.
Europe’s security challenges cannot be approached in isolation. While immediate crises demand our attention, we must retain a 360-degree view of the wider security environment.
Use the expertise in the room. Challenge each other. Build the relationships that will matter when Europe needs them most.

Important news, suggesting UK is proposing the CCV and LUSV combination for both the RN and Denmark's air defence requirement, which also suggests it will be based on AH140. The hybrid element will be common across Norwegian, Danish and UK fleets.
🇩🇰🇬🇧🇳🇴 NEW: Britain is proposing a major new naval partnership with Denmark that could fundamentally reshape the Danish Navy.
The proposal goes far beyond Denmark purchasing new British-designed frigates.
Britain wants Denmark to join a deeply integrated “hybrid fleet” combining manned warships with unmanned surface vessels, underwater drones and aerial systems - primarily operating in the North Atlantic.
Unmanned systems could eventually be controlled across Danish, British and Norwegian warships, allowing another allied frigate to take control if one vessel is lost or disabled.
The proposal would also significantly deepen intelligence sharing between Denmark and the UK.
Denmark and Britain are already in talks.
