Actress Asavela Mqokiyana Due Back In Court Over Alleged Speeding Actress and model Asavela Mqokiyana is expected to return to the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 October, after allegedly driving at 198 km/h in a 120 km/h zone in KwaZulu-Natal. According to the KZN Department of Transport, Mqokiyana, also known as Asavela Mngqithi, appeared in court on 19 October following her arrest by Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers. The department said the Park Rynie RTI team stopped her while she was driving a BMW X3 on the N2 near Ellingham, in the Scottburgh area. Her arrest forms part of the department’s ongoing #NenzaniLaEzweni road-safety operation, which targets reckless driving and other traffic violations. Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said enforcement operations would continue ahead of the festive season, warning that authorities would show no mercy to motorists who endanger other road users. The department reported that RTI officers recorded 421 speeding charges and stopped more than 12,000 vehicles between 15 and 21 October. Mqokiyana is known for her roles as Ntwenhle in Isibaya and Sizakele in Uzalo. She has also appeared in Abomama and Durban Gen. She is the daughter of football coach Manqoba Mngqithi. The department has not provided further details about the charges or the outcome of her first court appearance.

#sapsMP [SIX FOREIGN NATIONALS ARRESTED WITH DAGGA WORTH ABOUT R2 MILLION IN MAHAMBA AND CAROLINA, MPUMALANGA] The Police in Mahamba arrested five Eswatini nationals, aged between 22 and 30 for dealing in dagga during #SaferFestiveSeason operations on 23 October 2026. The members were conducting stop and searches on the N2 Road near Commondale Turn-off at about 21:40 when they stopped a white Isuzu double cab bakkie and found 33 rolls of dagga weighing about 125.2 kilograms, with an estimated street value of R750 000. The dagga and vehicle were seized for further investigation. In a separate incident, on Thursday, 22 October 2026, Police in Carolina arrested an Eswatini national for possession of dagga that weighs approximately 200 kilograms, with an estimated street value of R1.2 million. The report indicates that at approximately 05:20, Police were conducting patrols along Voortrekker Street in Carolina when they spotted a suspicious grey Volkswagen Golf TSI with tinted windows. The members attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver reportedly fled in the direction of Wonderfontein Road. Police pursued the vehicle and managed to intercept it near the Belfast turn-off. Police searched the vehicle and it was during this time that police discovered a substantial quantity of dagga concealed inside the vehicle. The suspect was immediately apprehended and then charged with dealing in dagga. The vehicle and the dagga were seized for further investigation. All suspects are expected to appear at the Caroline and Piet Retief Magistrate Courts respectively, in due course. The Provincial Commissioner of the #SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, commended the members for their vigilance and swift response, which resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of dagga before it could reach the streets. “We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations and patrols to disrupt the illegal dagga trade. The seizure of this dagga is a clear indication of our commitment to ensuring that drugs are removed from our communities, ” said the General. #FightingCrime #DrugsOffTheStreets #PoliceVisibility #PartnershipPolicing #SaferCommunities ST
