How many domains do I have?
People have been asking me since I started
It is none of your business
Some people are even offended as if knowing my portfolio size will suddenly get him an Afternic email
At first I never mentioned it because it always created fresh comments and thus better reach
And it became a part of my character. Everybody wants to know my portfolio size
Well, it is not going to change your life haha
Here is the math
My average acquisition cost is $1000. Used to be $500 3 years ago
I have never put a single penny into my domaining company other than the $10K that I invested in 2020-21 from my credit card. I only spent $1000 a month over 9-10 months before I didn't have to spend anymore of my personal funds.
You know how much I make every year, I share them. I take out a decent profit every year. Last year I bought a brand new BMW for Cash. Was going to buy a one word .com but I couldn't afford anything I wanted so I said fck it and went to the BMW dealer instead.
Now do the math if you want
Nobody has scaled to 100K names post 2020
There just isn't enough good inventory
I know only one person who scaled to 50K names and his ROI is so low I won't buy his portfolio even at closeout cost.
It is stupid to think that it is only a game of size. Those with size did it a long time back when you used to get get good closeouts for $5 or drop catch good names at cost. Try scaling now
I know everyone with large portfolio. None of them have been scaling last 3 years.
Do not focus on size of portfolio
I scale my portfolio on Value, not on size. If I could convert my entire portfolio into one one dot coms, .orgs, and .nets, similar in value (my cost of acquisition) I would do it in a heart beat
And no I don't have 50,000 names. It is simply not possible nor am I interested in carrying 50k closeout names
The reason some of you smart asses think I have 50K names is because I used to register, drop and reregister .co and .us with some cheap registrars without whois and they count all my names that I ever held together.
So If I reg a name 3 times, it is counted as 3 names
It was all those 99 cent promo names. Invest 5K and make 10K.. Those were low hanging penny names I did for fun. They never brought more than 10% of revenue even back then.
I also registered a lot of other GLTDs which were cheap to tests what works and what doesnt and to collect data. I even had .biz and .info
This was all in 2021-23
Like I said, don't worry about my portfolio. Find what works from you and scale from there
I was speaking to a close friend who only buy cheap names and can't understand the math of $3K names
Well, as I have said before, even the $2-$3K Auction names works on the same principle as closeouts. Not everyone will make money. Not all are good buys. It comes down to selection, And unless you start buying them you will not know which names are worth buying and which aren't. Start buying the best names in your budget. A $100 name will always be better than a $5 closeout, when you scale. Of course you will find a $5 name better than another that went for $100. That is what I mean. But you will be able to get a better $100 name if you look
TLDR:
1) Don't worry about what people are doing
2) You cannot scale junk from closeouts anymore
3) Focus on buying good names for any price. * Think opportunity cost over a week
4) Whether you reinvest 10K in 2 names or 1000 closeouts, you are still scaling. I prefer 2 names because it is easier to find value in better names. That is what all the successful investors are doing
5) You are not HD, neither am I, but there is still much to learn from HD :P
* Let me expand that. Instead of going for auctions every night in the last minute YOLO style, check out all the Top auctions for the next 7 days or whatever suits you
And then only focus on the best from that list under your budget. And only buy those that makes sense to you in terms of cost
Eg: A might be better than B
But is A at 5K better than B at 2K?
That is what you decide and then put your money on the best opportunity
Buying everyday YOLO also dries up your budget when the best opportunity comes along.
Now don't ask me how to know if A is better or B
We all have our own intuition and other data to look at
That is why I am Me and you are You :)
Peace
