The ICE officer who shot a Venezuelan man in Austin, leaving a bullet lodged in his back, was issued a body camera but was not wearing it during the shooting, two officials with DHS tell NBC News. On Sunday, an ICE agent in Austin shot 28-year-old Wilber Garces Perez in the back. He was detained and forced to sleep in a cell with the bullet still lodged in his body, without pain medication or any sensation on the left side of his body. Now, ICE is attempting to deport him before a full, independent investigation can take place. I joined @RepCasar and more than 100 Members of Congress in demanding that ICE provide him immediate medical care, cease any efforts to deport him, and commit to a comprehensive, independent investigation.
