Freedom of the press prevailed in court today. This is a major victory for the First Amendment and every American demanding accountability from the White House. Delivered by a Trump-appointed judge, this decision proves that despite attempts to bypass the Constitution, no one is above the law.

Ahead of the UN General Assembly in New York, I had the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Felix Baumann, the new Consul General for Switzerland. We had a meaningful conversation regarding the current state of our trade policies, effects of tariffs, and opportunities to expand partnership with our longtime friends in Switzerland.

Pleased to meet with Congressman George Latimer (@RepGLatimer) in New York, who has been a strong and important voice for Kosova, particularly in support of its NATO accession. We discussed a range of topics, including Kosova’s economic growth, its achievements in strengthening safety and security, and its growing recognition and engagement with international institutions. We also discussed the enduring partnership between Kosova and the United States, including our cooperation in defense and development. Our conversation also focused on regional security, including concerns about the Russian support for destabilizing activities. The United States is a cherished ally of Kosova, and we are deeply grateful for the strong bonds of friendship and bipartisan support we enjoy across both chambers of the U.S. Congress.

This week on Capitol Hill, I had the opportunity to speak at the American Hellenic Institute’s annual commemoration of the invasion of Cyprus. In my remarks, I highlighted the strategic and economic role Cyprus plays in the future of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as the importance of protecting the ethnic Greek community’s right to embrace their religion and culture freely and fairly.

Across the country, small businesses are hiring veterans, individuals with disabilities, and other employees who traditionally face barriers to entering the workforce. That's why I introduced the Incentivizing Small Business Employee Retention Act of 2026, so that our small businesses can receive an additional tax incentive to hire and retain these valuable employees. I look forward to advancing this legislation to support small businesses who are investing in the community and the local workforce.

Twenty-five years ago, New York suffered an unimaginable loss, but the patriotism, resilience, and unity that followed can continue to serve as a guiding light through moments of devastation. My condolences and prayers remain with the loved ones of those killed in the attacks of September 11th, including over 200 people from Westchester County and the Bronx, as we remember that harrowing day and those who continue to live with its consequences.

This morning, I had the privilege of helping honor the late Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey, a fierce defender of democracy and former U.S. Representative of Westchester County and the Bronx. I joined with the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, and local elected officials to officially dedicate Kensico Green as the “United States Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey Community Green” to ensure that her legacy will be remembered for years to come. May her memory be a blessing.

This past weekend, I was honored to attend the 9/11 Ceremony at Patriots Park in Tarrytown to remember the brave men and women who were called to serve that day and the countless lives lost. As we approach the 25th anniversary of this tragic day, I commend all who continue to keep alive the stories and memories of those we lost preserved for generations to come.

Today we celebrate the contributions of the labor movement to our nation, particularly the vast workplace protections and infrastructure we enjoy every day. As Labor Day also marks the unofficial end of the summer, I wish everyone a great start to the school year!

Disaster relief should never be political. As a government agency, FEMA should be aiding all Americans during a disaster, not just those that agree with their political leaning. This partisan roadblock impacts not just New Yorkers, but every American relying on federal support in a crisis.
