For generations, lobstering has supported Maine families and supplied our economy. On National Lobster Day, we celebrate not only Maine’s most iconic dish but also the extraordinary men and women who work hard to keep this industry alive.

Every barrel of Russian oil sold on the global market is funding for Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Knowing this, I voted today to provide new tools to cut off the oil revenue that’s greasing Russia’s war machine, including new sanctions and tariffs on the top buyers of Russian energy and those countries helping the federation evade existing sanctions. Twenty-five years ago today, our nation endured the deadliest foreign attack on American soil. Today, we hold in our hearts the thousands who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, their families and loved ones. Their memory will not be forgotten. We also honor those who ran toward danger in the wake of the attacks, from the first responders who rushed without question to Lower Manhattan to the generation who answered the call to defend our nation. That day, Americans joined together, resolute in the face of those who brought terror to our shores. As we remember those lost and those forever changed on 9/11, let us also remember that a united America can never be outmatched and that no shadow of fear or terror can dim our spirit.

Last week my bill, the Northeast Lobstermen Protection Act, passed the House in a bipartisan vote. The legislation extends to 2035 a moratorium on new North Atlantic right whale regulations for lobstermen — and prevents these onerous regulations from eroding a way of life on Maine’s coast. Happy Labor Day, Maine! Mainers believe those who work hard deserve their fair share of the rewards. No more, no less. I’m proud to have played a part in that fight this year — passing bills in the House to overturn an executive order that shredded collective bargaining for federal workers, make it harder for corporations to hold up union contracts, and block costly new regulations that threaten our lobster industry. With the time I have left in Congress, I’ll continue fighting to ensure those who build this country actually share in its success. Solidarity forever.

I just voted to fund government through December 11, preventing a shutdown in October. The bill passed the House 370-48. In an election season without a budget deal, the risk of political games is high. I’d like to congratulate David J. Ramirez on his promotion today to Master Gunnery Sergeant of the US Marine Corps. David has shown his exemplary work ethic and commitment to service as a Defense Fellow in my office since January. In that time, he’s helped me in my role on the House Armed Services Committee as we negotiated the NDAA and so much more. I’m proud to know him and excited to see all that he will continue to achieve for himself and his country.
