Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and when an engaged group of business leaders comes together to work to strengthen their community, everyone benefits. I am thankful to Haverford Township and the Haverford Township Free Library for convening their Small Business Breakfast today. It was especially rewarding to be at the Library after helping to secure $2 million for its redevelopment!

President Trump and his allies can no longer hide the fact that they have put their own financial and political interests above those of the American people. They don't want to hear the verdict of Americans come November, because Americans are rejecting their corruption, chaos and cruelty.

In the United States of America, we bend the knee to NO KINGS, and worship no thrones nor golden statues. We revere our rights and liberties, key among those being our right to vote.

Since the earliest days of our great nation, Americans' right to vote, to determine our own future, has set us apart from most other world powers. The right to vote is now, and always has been, intertwined with our future — our potential and our promise. That power resides in the American people. Our duty is to protect and preserve that power for all Americans to make our voices heard with our votes. As the Trump Administration and its allies have tried to undermine our elections with illegal executive orders, voter suppression laws, and misinformation, one must ask: why are they trying so hard to keep Americans from voting? Our hearing will examine the power of the American voter and why you should feel confident that your votes will be counted this November.

So special to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of PA's very own Rosie the Riveters, June Robbins! June is one of many women who worked at Philly’s Navy Yard during World War II. Last year, I had the honor of presenting June with a Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of her service and dedication to the skilled trades during World War II and beyond. The efforts of women like June forever changed societal perceptions of women in the workplace, and even today, June continues to advocate to open doors for girls and women in STEM and the skilled trades.

We also honor the generations whose hard work and leadership continue to strengthen our country. This month and always, we celebrate the diversity and contributions that make our communities stronger!

Last week, I had a sobering discussion with Trinity Health at Mercy Fitzgerald about the pressures on frontline hospitals, including Medicaid cuts, the bankruptcy of Crozer Health, and threats to the 340B program. Endlessly grateful for the professionals who soldier on for their patients.

Happy Constitution Day, PA-05!🪶📜 Today, we celebrate the signing of our Constitution in 1787 and the establishment of the framework for "We the People" to begin creating our more perfect union. As the Ranking Member on the Constitution Subcommittee, I could not take more seriously my oath to protect and defend the Constitution, and the rights and liberties it guarantees to us all.

Wonderful to see students in PA-05 thriving! At my visit to Blockson Middle School in Norristown, I got to see their impressive school garden, math and science classes, literacy programs, and the incredibly dedicated staff who are working hard for our community!

Puentes de Salud is a free medical clinic serving folks in the Philadelphia region who may not have access to health insurance. This charitable institution leverages the deep commitment of folks in our medical community to serve those in need and also helps medical and dental students learn how to serve diverse patient groups. The dedication of all involved in Puentas de Salud was inspiring to witness.💙

If we want to strengthen fraud enforcement, we should restore the independence, expertise, and accountability at the Department of Justice rather than engage in more performative legislation.

Our democracy ultimately depends on Americans choosing to participate in it. When the White House sows propaganda and injects chaos in our elections, it suppresses voter participation. Americans should have confidence that when they cast a lawful ballot, that ballot will be counted. I’m grateful to the experts who joined today’s hearing to provide truthful information about our elections, and the various ways that every American can participate in and be an ambassador for our democracy.

With just 4 days to legislate before Speaker Johnson sends Congress home for another 7 weeks, our Republican colleagues have decided to prioritize legislation that weakens environmental protections for our kids and communities.

Thank you to Southwest CDC and  ACANA for arranging a walking tour and round table with small businesses and housing advocates in the Woodland Avenue Business Corridor in Southwest Philly. We discussed the challenges facing small businesses with shrinking profit margins and lack of access to capital, and the need to coordinate federal, state and local efforts to expand affordable housing across our region.

Congratulations to DCIU on opening the new Marple Education Center! I was fortunate to join local officials to tour the new Practical Nursing Program facility, additional early childhood education classrooms, a playground, conference rooms, a parent waiting room, and a reconfigured stage! DCIU is such an important part of our community, and I am glad to see these advancements.

It's illegal to send armed officers or troops to polling places, so when members of the Trump administration say that they might, they are trying to chill participation in our elections by American citizens.

The best response to concerns about our elections is to reject the propaganda and chaos and make a plan to vote.

Pennsylvanians: If the SAVE Act were to pass, your PA Real ID would no longer be enough to register to vote. This bill is a massive disenfranchisement effort, particularly for married women, young people, and people living in rural areas.

Our elections are secure, and baseless claims to the contrary are based on propaganda from those who want to disenfranchise eligible voters.

Thank you to @SenTimKearney, @RepHeatherBoyd, and @RepGinaCurry for hosting their annual Senior Fair at the Drexelbrook. It was great to catch up with so many constituents and local leaders, and the hundreds of seniors who attended appreciated the opportunity for one-stop shopping for social services, health care resources, and financial information.

Philadelphia's 9/11 Day of Service saw the packing of hundreds of thousands of meals for distribution by Philabundance. Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who helped our hungry neighbors, the sponsors who funded it, and the Eagles for hosting this opportunity to give back in PA-05.

Today, we remember the thousands who perished on September 11, 2001, and honor the survivors, first responders, servicemembers, and families whose lives were forever changed. We will never forget the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call.

Great discussion in Chester with Moms Rising - a group dedicated to building a more family-friendly America. I very much appreciate everyone taking time from their VERY busy schedules to share their wisdom and challenges of raising families in this economy. It is so imperative that we build a care economy that serves all Americans.

I was happy to connect with Laborers Local 413 in Chester. The folks I spoke to were clear: they and their families want good jobs, affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and quality schools — not ballrooms and tax breaks for billionaires.

We had a wonderful visit to Ruth Bennett Community Farm! In addition to providing work and learning opportunities for young people in the neighborhood, the farm distributes the healthy food grown there to community members struggling to feed their families. I am so deeply grateful for their hard work! 🥕🥬🥒

Here’s what’s going on in the House this week.

I spoke on the House Floor against a bill that would give Donald Trump control over the Supreme Court for decades to come.

This week marks the 62nd anniversary of SNAP; House Democrats and I remain committed to protecting food access for American families. The Big Ugly Bill cut vital funding in ways that stripped SNAP benefits from tens of thousands of eligible Pennsylvanians. No family in PA-05 should go hungry. I'll never stop fighting to reverse these cruel cuts.

Instead of focusing on making life better for the American people, my Republican colleagues would rather divide and instill fear into them.

Our taxpayer dollars should not be used to line the pockets of private prison companies like the GEO Group! ICE is paying millions to GEO every month to detain nonviolent, noncriminal immigrants at Moshannon Valley Detention Center, and increasing its profits by using their labor to run the camp. So, no. Immigrants are not stealing American jobs; for-profit companies like the GEO Group are.

We've seen it time and time again: this Administration tries to silence anyone who criticizes it, which is a fundamental violation of the First Amendment. Always great to catch up with @MacFarlaneNews.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our town hall at White Horse Village to make your voices heard! I’m always grateful for the opportunity to meet our neighbors in person and have honest conversations about the challenges facing PA-05 and our country. This is what democracy looks like!

What a beautiful celebration of the completion of much-needed renovations at Holy Family Home in Kingsessing, where the Little Sisters of the Poor have served low-income Philadelphia seniors for almost 150 years! At a time when many seniors, particularly those with disabilities, struggle to afford housing, the Little Sisters worked with federal, state, and local partners to transform the Home to serve the community for years to come. The obvious dignity and respect between staff and residents highlighted my belief that such personal care services are best performed by nonprofit and public entities, and reinforced my commitment to legislation that would prevent private equity from owning hospitals and nursing homes.

I met with advocates at Centro De Apoyo to discuss the impact of ICE activity in eastern Delco, and particularly the disruption to families, schools, healthcare, and small businesses, as more than 300 members of the Upper Darby community have been detained in the past year and a half, often without due process. This Administration must be held accountable for the denial of human rights and health care to our neighbors, and the chaos and trauma inflicted on our community.

On August 28, 1963, hundreds of thousands of Americans gathered in Washington, D.C., to demand jobs, freedom, and equality. 63 years later, House Democrats honor the legacy of those who marched by continuing the fight for a better America.

Francis J. Myers Rec Center has been a vital community hub in SW Philly for generations, giving friends, neighbors, and kids a place to learn, connect, and play. I was honored to join state and local officials and the neighborhood in celebrating its renovation and reopening.  I was pleased to secure federal funding to support the ongoing renovations of its athletic fields and look forward to my next visit.

Local leaders face community challenges firsthand, and their perspective is critical to our work in Congress. Grateful for the chance to talk with 20+ local officials at Delaware County Consortium of Governments’ monthly meeting about the issues they’re navigating, from affordable housing and funding emergency services to how we can work together to answer the concerns of our local communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined our town hall at Lima Estates retirement community! I always enjoy hearing from constituents about their concerns and having honest conversations about the best course forward for PA05 and our country as a whole. We had great discussions ranging from federal budget negotiations and how to reduce the deficit, to immigration enforcement, Social Security solvency, underfunding of our National Parks, and investments in the Philadelphia Shipyard and workforce development.

For more than 50 years, Women’s Way has worked to advance gender equity.  We met recently to discuss our shared interests in legislation to promote economic security, reproductive freedom, workplace equality, and dignity for all.
