Congratulations to @jaydeboyer1 on being selected by @JohnJamesMI to join the Republican ticket. I gave Jay one of the toughest assignments in the House, leading our expanded and empowered Oversight Committee, and he delivered major results. Jay used Oversight’s new subpoena authority and new subcommittees to investigate problems all across state government. He exposed failures in the Michigan State Police, investigated child welfare, took Jocelyn Benson to court over election-training materials, rooted out waste, fraud and abuse in economic development, and investigated the DNR and Dana Nessel for wrongdoing. Oversight’s work led to the resignation of a high-ranking official, exposed hidden records, and triggered the AG’s investigation into the MEDC. Jay has never been afraid to take on powerful people when MI taxpayers deserve answers. I’ve worked closely with Jay for a long time, and I know his character, work ethic and commitment to the people of Michigan. John James made an excellent choice.

I understand why the Canadians didn't invite American officials to the opening ceremony of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The Canadians were being very unfair, but now President @realDonaldTrump has forced them to accept a much more fair deal. Instead of keeping all of the income, Canada now has to pay America 50% of the profit - $300 million for our commerce - and give us a real say in future tolls. That's far better for American workers and Michigan families, and it is much more important than any ribbon cutting. @TeamTrump @POTUS @RapidResponse47 @howardlutnick

It was great meeting with @DrOz to discuss saving Medicaid and rural healthcare in Michigan so it's available for the people it is meant to help. We have done a lot of work to root out fraud in the Medicaid system that threatens the program here in Michigan, and there's more to come.

I negotiated a great budget deal that was signed into law yesterday. As part of that deal, we are finally defunding and draining the governor's 'SOAR' fund, which gave out hundreds of millions of dollars in corporate welfare with no accountability and was a complete failure. We're also taking money back from the COVID-19 slush fund that shouldn't exist. We were smart and used that money to save Medicaid, hand out record school funding, and increase public safety instead of raising taxes or raiding the rainy day fund like the Democrats wanted to do. We made better use of the money state government already has so we could pass a balanced budget smaller than last year and give taxpayers better value for their dollars.

The Canadians were taking advantage of us with the old bridge agreement, and now President Trump has finally won us a very fair deal. The art of the deal means the Canadians are paying us $300m and giving us more control over future tolls. That is a big victory. A ribbon cutting ceremony isn't nearly as important as racking up more wins for American workers, so it's fine if they want to cancel. President Trump is moving on to win the next negotiation and is already fighting hard for Michigan’s automotive industry and our farmers. And we're going to get answers from Canada on all this smoke pollution they're sending us. I can understand why the Canadians don’t want to come celebrate all of that.

Our new state budget was just signed into law today, and that means state government spending just shrunk by more than $800m, hundreds of ghost employees were eliminated, and House Republicans have won the war on the fight over new taxes and fee increases - there are none in this plan. After the Hall Ethics Accountability and Transparency (HEAT) Plan was signed into law last year, secret pork spending is over. This year we added several new anti-fraud welfare reforms. That frees up hundreds of millions for real priorities like record road repair funding, stronger public safety to keep our neighborhoods safe, and letting families keep more of their money with no taxes on tips, overtime and social security. All of that is in our plan. Eliminating waste, fraud and abuse is how we invested in the things Michigan families actually want and saved critical services like Medicaid for the people who need them most.

The state's new school budget was signed into law this morning, and this is a great plan to shrink class sizes, improve safety and mental health, and help kids learn to read. We worked hard to give schools record funding to hire new teachers and expand early literacy programs so we can teach kids the basics and embrace phonics. That will give kids a much better chance to succeed in life. And from free pre-k programs, to the Hall Universal free Breakfast and lunch in Schools (HUBS), to expanded dual enrollment options, we are also helping parents save on their child's education at every step in the process. This is the right plan for our students and Michigan families.

Hopefully we get good news on the injured deputy soon. Just like I predicted, @realDonaldTrump negotiated a much better deal for America on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. This is great news. America will now have a bigger say in the bridge tolls, and Michigan residents will benefit from the revenue just like we should. I don't know why Democrats fought against American interests on this. This is exactly what we wanted, and President Trump delivered. I'm looking forward to the bridge opening later this month, and I'm looking forward to the people of Michigan benefiting from it from years to come.
