As AI continues to rapidly evolve, we need regulations at home and abroad. I’ve joined @RepYassAnsari and over 40 of my House Democratic colleagues in urging the Trump Administration to establish a coordinated global framework with our allies to regulate AI development. Especially as we grapple with the uncertainty of these advancements, it’s all the more important to work with our longstanding allies to ensure true global security.

The cost of buying a home is out of reach for too many Americans. This week I joined the Manufactured Housing Institute to tour newly manufactured affordable homes and discuss the importance of investing in new solutions to address the housing crisis. While Congress took a critical step toward lowering housing costs with the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act, we need to keep funding innovative solutions to put the dream of homeownership back within reach for hardworking families.

We have now lost 22 brave American servicemembers in the Middle East during President Trump’s war in Iran. My deepest condolences are with their loved ones and families who are grappling with this unimaginable loss. It also shouldn’t have to be said that we deserve a Pentagon that is forthright with the American people. I fully support legislation to prevent the DoD from manipulating government data on troop casualties. Improving veterans’ mental health programs, establishing a new VFW post in #MD03, and advancing crucial legislation to expand veterans’ benefits: just a few of the topics we discussed with the Maryland @VFWHQ! As the only Marylander on the House Armed Services Committee, I will continue having these conversations to ensure our servicemembers, veterans, and military families not only have the recognition they deserve, but the highest possible quality of care.

Today marks 15 years since the end of the U.S. military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. The end of this policy allowed LGBTQ+ servicemembers to serve openly, but that was not before thousands of servicemembers were wrongfully discharged for simply being who they were. Over the past 21 months, we’ve seen this Administration attack our brave and selfless LGBTQ+ troops. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee and @EqualityCaucus, I will continue fighting for the rights of all those who just want to serve our country. We will not go back.

Congress has an obligation to those we serve to tackle the most urgent and complex problems facing our nation and world. Instead of doing that with AI, the Speaker canceled votes and sent us home two weeks early. That’s why I've joined @RepLiccardo in urging Speaker Johnson to reconvene the House and advance meaningful, bipartisan AI safeguards. AI isn’t slowing down, and neither should Congress. We need to be here in Washington, working towards meaningful regulations for this technology – it’s what our constituents elected us to do.

Every year, nearly 21,000 families in our country tragically lose a child to stillbirth. While dealing with this loss, these families not only have to grapple with grief, but also make difficult financial decisions to cover medical costs, funeral expenses, and much more during one of their darkest moments. On National Stillbirth Prevention and Awareness Day, we recognize the families who lost their children far too soon and the challenges they face for years to come. That’s why during my time in the Maryland Senate, I introduced a bill to ensure Maryland families have the time and resources to properly honor their child, rather than worrying about their finances during one of their most challenging moments. I’m grateful that bill has finally passed this year thanks to the tireless work of Senator Waldstreicher and my state partners.

One of the most powerful experiences I’ve had in 21 months as your Member of Congress was visiting the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency at Pearl Harbor and seeing firsthand the commitment our nation has made to identify, bring home, and reunite missing servicemembers with their families. On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor the brave men and women who were held captive or who are still missing in their service to our country – including many of whom were never given a proper chance to be laid to rest.  To this day, over 900 Marylanders who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam have been declared missing in action. Today and everyday, we remember the lives lost and stand with the families who never received closure for their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. It’s why I’m committed to fighting to restore vital funding of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to continue its most sacred mission. BREAKING: A new report by the nonpartisan CBO just confirmed that President Trump’s illegal Iran war has cost American taxpayers nearly $40 billion over the last six months. This estimate was made despite the Trump Administration refusing to provide all the relevant information, which could mean the real cost is much higher.  In addition to the $40 billion bill and cascading impact on our economy, we’ve lost 19 servicemembers in this reckless war. That’s why an unprecedented 7 Republicans joined 213 Democrats in passing yet another War Powers Resolution yesterday in an effort to pressure this President to end this war. Enough is enough.

Did you know that during World War II, 384 Liberty ships were produced at Baltimore’s Sparrows Point – more than any other shipyard in the nation? Maryland has the location, maritime infrastructure, industrial base, and projected workforce demand to become a leading center for shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing once again.    This week I sat down with Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for the Defense Industrial Base, Andy Magliochetti, to strategize on revitalizing this industry by investing in our shipbuilding and our maritime workforce. Yes, you read that correctly: the Trump Administration will no longer limit harmful pollution from power plants. These are one of the largest sources of harmful greenhouse gas emissions in our country, and this deregulation will put our earth and our health at greater risk by worsening rising temperatures, extreme weather, asthma, and other lung and heart diseases.  As Vice Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee, I’ll continue fighting for common-sense regulations to protect our planet for generations to come. nytimes.com/2026/09/13/clima…

239 years ago today, 39 delegates convened at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia to sign one of our nation’s founding documents. The Constitution outlines the unalienable rights of the American people and what was – at its time – a radical democratic experiment. Having sworn an oath to support and defend this sacred document, I’m committed to upholding its vision and promise - and the clear separation of powers - that our Founders envisioned. In the decades since, this document has been expanded and strengthened thanks to the resilience and advocacy of generations of Americans. On the 250th anniversary of our founding, today is also a special reminder of the role that We The People have in shaping a more perfect Union.
