The rate of global warming has doubled over the last decade. At this pace, we're on track to cross 2°C above pre-industrial temperatures within just 20 years.
Why does 2°C matter so much? Because past that point, the most severe consequences of climate change become effectively irreversible: the loss of Arctic sea ice, the collapse of ocean systems that regulate weather across the globe, and more frequent, more severe extreme weather events that devastate communities like San Diego. What my colleagues in Congress need to understand is that we have the power to change this trajectory, even if Trump doesn't want to. Cutting air pollutants like methane is one of the fastest ways to slow global warming. The technology already exists, and it can be deployed today.
Tighter methane rules for oil and gas are one of the easiest, cheapest tools we have. We just need to get out of our own way and use them before our window closes. (4/4)

Our national debt passed $40 trillion for the first time ever, while interest payments alone cost about $1 trillion annually—more than what we spend on defense or Medicaid!
Republicans and Democrats don't agree on much, but we can all agree that this can't go on. That's why I'm in Texas today for a bipartisan hearing on the urgent need to fix this unsustainable debt problem.
