Home care workers are the backbone of New York's care economy, helping our seniors and neighbors with disabilities live safely and with dignity in their own homes.  This week, CDPAP caregivers across New York took the next step in the largest union election in the country in more than 80 years as they organize with @1199SEIU and @SEIU.  The National Labor Relations Act protects their right to organize, and I stand with them as they fight for fair wages and a voice on the job. Protecting Medicaid home care means protecting the workers who make it possible, and I'll keep fighting for both.

America’s working families can’t afford more of Trump’s petty trade war with Canada. His tariffs are raising costs, putting manufacturing jobs at risk, and making it harder for businesses to grow. When the cost of steel and aluminum goes up, American manufacturers pay more, workers face fewer opportunities, and families feel the squeeze. Donald Trump has never respected our Constitution. Now he is violating the First Amendment, banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from covering the White House. Our federal courts need to step in and stop it. Families are feeling the squeeze of a cost of living crisis, and Congress should be focused on making life more affordable. The nonpartisan CBO reports that Trump’s war in Iran is driving up inflation and has already cost taxpayers $38 billion. That’s why I joined @HouseDemocrats in passing another War Powers Resolution to bring Trump’s war to an end. Our focus must be on lowering costs, strengthening economic security, and putting more money in the pockets of working families – not financing illegal, endless wars.

Republicans have fled Washington while 244,000 New Yorkers are going hungry.  Families are struggling every single day to afford groceries, rent, utilities, and healthcare, and the One Big Ugly Bill is making that crisis even worse. Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress do not care about working families -  they are just making it harder for families to put food on the table when they need help the most. Western New Yorkers deserve better. I will not stop fighting to protect food assistance, lower costs, and make sure no family has to go hungry just to make ends meet.

Mail-in ballots are one of the most convenient and secure ways for Americans to exercise their right to vote. Yesterday, the Supreme Court stopped Trump from letting the Postal Service block mail ballots from potentially millions of eligible voters in this year’s midterm election. Every American voting absentee this fall should be able to trust their ballot gets delivered and counted. Last week’s tribute to the victims, families, and first responders of 9/11 was both humbling and powerful. It was a solemn reminder of the people we lost that day and just how fragile our lives are, but also of the courage and strength we have in our shared humanity.  In our darkest moments, we stand together, united and committed to a more just and compassionate America — one where we look out for our neighbors, lift each other up, and never lose sight of the values that bind us together. Twenty-five years later, that is the promise we must continue to carry forward. We will never forget.

On September 11th, we remember the 25th anniversary of the attacks that forever changed our nation. We honor nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. We honor the fire fighters, police officers, EMTs, and other first responders who ran towards danger to save others, as well as the members of our Armed Forces who answered the call to defend our nation in the years that followed. A quarter century later, we continue to stand with the families who lost loved ones and remember the courage, compassion, and resilience that brought our communities together in the aftermath.  We will never forget.
