I received the Ella Dickey Literacy Award at the Marshfield Cherry Blossom Festival. With me is my former student Myra Miller. The award is named for the first librarian in Marshfield who served for over 50 years. Writers couldn’t work without librarians.
What a lovely group of people, the Cherry Blossom Festival Auxiliary of Marshfield, MO. I heard of the big plans for the festival April 26-28, 2019 from Nicholas Inman, with his son and daughter next to yours truly in the photograph.
Books reignite old friends. Jane Church with me at a book club who read Farmer’s Daughter and I Can Prove It. Years ago I encouraged her to go finish her degree. She did!
My father as a young man. He died when I was 16. He taught me many things on the farm. "Get a good education and life will be better." He also said, "One thing you can count on in life--hard work." He was right both times! Happy Father's Day, Dad.
Enjoyed seeing the set list for the Stones concert Dublin. I've noticed that these lists differ greatly abroad from when they play the States. Same songs, different order. There has to be a scholarly study in there somewhere!
I only knew my mother for 19 years. She died before I escaped my teenage years. She never saw me marry, teach, write books. Her no nonsense attitudes, “Get an education, work hard, have love in your life.” She’s on the cover of my book. Thanks, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day.
