As #ONRuralWeek comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the people, places, and communities that make Elgin-Middlesex-London such a special part of Ontario.

From the farms that feed our communities to our small businesses, volunteers, and local organizations, rural Ontario contributes so much to our daily lives.

It is a big part of what makes Ontario the province it is. While this week gives us a chance to celebrate, it’s something we should appreciate every day.

I had a great visit with local artist Cornelia Greger, whose work celebrates the birds and natural world around us. Cornelia is the Artist in Residence with Western University’s Centre for Animals on the Move, bringing together art and research in a unique and meaningful way. Her recent exhibition, The Colour of Song, featured 76 paintings of birds inspired by images from the Centre. She stopped by the office to share some of her watercolours and oil paintings, and to tell us more about the inspiration and stories behind her work. Our government is putting money back in the pockets of commuters in Elgin-Middlesex-London. Through One Fare, we’re saving transit users $1600 each year, delivering real savings for families when they need it most. Across Ontario, that works out to $300 million across 100 million free transfers.

Earlier this week, I joined Associate Minister @Rae_Matt to tour Listowel Gardens in Listowel.

When complete, this mixed-use development will provide 178 new rental suites, alongside shops and services, with housing options designed to meet a range of needs. It was great to see the units firsthand and learn more about the development’s barrier-free layouts.

Projects like Listowel Gardens are adding more homes, more choice, and supporting growing communities across Ontario.

Few events feel as much like home as the International Plowing Match.   Agriculture has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From time spent on my grandfather’s farm, to decades working in the agri-food sector. It was a real pleasure to be in Walkerton this week to meet with farmers and families, and celebrate the people who make Ontario's agriculture so special.   Our government continues to stand with Ontario farmers by strengthening risk management supports, helping producers reach new markets, and making investments that support a strong, resilient agri-food sector.   A great day celebrating an industry and way of life that will always be close to my heart.

Rural Ontario is closer than you think. Just beyond our cities are main streets, festivals, trails, markets and communities with something worth discovering. Base Living, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, is creating new opportunities for homeownership in Prince Edward County.

Last week, I was pleased to attend the groundbreaking for Hilltop Village, the first residential village in the Base31 community. By prioritizing affordability, this project is helping put homeownership within reach for more Ontario families.

Our government is getting drivers in Southwestern Ontario moving faster.   We’ve increased the speed limit to 110 km/h on major sections of Highways 401 and 402 and parts of Highway 403, making travel faster and more consistent for drivers in our community.   Under Premier Ford’s leadership, we’re keeping our promise to get Ontario moving.

We’re getting shovels in the ground for new and upgraded long-term care homes across Ontario. As part of our $6.4 billion plan, we’ve built Elmwood Place, Southbridge London, and Terrace Lodge to deliver 128, 160, and 100 long-term care spaces right here in Elgin-Middlesex-London.

Since 2018, we’ve attracted over $5 billion in agri-food manufacturing investment and created over 22,000 jobs right here at home. We will continue to make Ontario the most competitive place to invest and grow while building a more secure, sovereign and self-reliant food supply.

Ontario is starting construction on one of Canada's largest clean energy projects, creating 30,500 jobs.   The Pickering Nuclear Refurbishment is part of one of the most ambitious nuclear energy expansions in North America, creating 150,000 new jobs and adding $800 billion to our economy. 🔗: news.ontario.ca/en/release/1…

Our government is leading the largest expansion of medical education in over a decade. This includes adding 340 undergraduate and 551 postgraduate seats - a 67% increase - and opening two new medical schools that will support the next generation of Ontario's physician workforce.
