A college coach can want your son and still lose him to an admissions office. It happens every year at the academic schools. The fix is boring and it works: course rigor, grades and test scores, starting freshman year. Recruiting at these schools is a two-front campaign.

Nobody can take the education. Rosters change, coaches leave, injuries happen. The degree your son leaves with is the one outcome of this entire process that cannot be transferred, cut or capped. Families who choose schools they would want without baseball do not regret the choice.
