Report: The PGA Tour is not expected to make a decision on LIV players coming back until at least January, when the bankruptcy proceedings are set to conclude. But when the PGA Tour makes those decisions, it will do so with the long-term future of the tour in mind, not the "sugar-high" of an immediate commercial benefit, per a source directly familiar with PGA Tour leadership's thinking. @TheAthletic

"Like a powerful magnet, LIV drew in the malcontents, the mercenaries, and the misfits of the golf world, many of them unified by this idea they had been wronged somewhere, and that they deserved the kind of power, influence, and money their talent could not justify in a normal sports economy. This was a chance to not only get rich, but to also get revenge. On whom and for what, exactly, it was never entirely clear. From the beginning, figures like Norman and Mickelson insisted they would have the last laugh, that they could see the entire chessboard. The fact that both men were absent from the scene when LIV unceremoniously died in bankruptcy court Thursday morning is disappointing, but perhaps fitting. Each of them cemented their legacy as a talented-but-manipulative scoundrel, and LIV burning through more than $5 billion before it was shuttered with no true believers left can be held up forever as their pièce de résistance." - @KVanValkenburg

PGA Tour players may be wealthier because of LIV but the PGA Tour I would argue is much poorer because of LIV …iconic events relegated to qualifying status, fewer tour cards, smaller fields, players who think this is good, players who confuse better compensation with better competition… I’m afraid it will be a slow erosion of excellence, where each compromise seems inconsequential, but the cumulative effect is the quiet destruction of what made the product exceptional.
PGA Tour 2.0... sooo... Waiʻalae, Kapalua, Colonial, Innisbrook (and probably Riviera too)... all cast aside... and major metro markets like Los Angeles, Atlanta & Houston, likely joining them in the "We're not worthy" club... Are we sure this is what we want? 🤷‍♂️ the-daily-drive.com/p/livs-f…

Tentative Exemption Status for 2027 PGA Tour - Going into the Austin Championship Note this is a first look, based on the week 44 FedEx Fall rankings, which will change after WW Technology Championship. Here's an "all in one" glance at current exemption status for the 2027 PGA Tour. With the changes coming in 2028, it's VERY important to have good status for 2027. Top-100 is the target, but thru top-125 conditional status is still pretty decent access. Players entered in Austin are noted in RED position numbers. Alternates in light red. Austin field is coming in around the 33ish OWGR winners points range, with 4 MQ's yet to come. • BLUE NAME = Exempt for everything including all SIGS. Most are major exempt as well. • GREEN = (top-70) and TAN (wins or other exempt criteria for 2027) are exempt for everything except SIGS. Many have major exemptions. • YELLOW = Medicals with significant (10 or more) medical starts in 2027 are shown. (there are more with only a few starts so they are not indicated) • All players without a color background are not yet full exempt for next year... although down thru ~#88 are pretty safe for full exempt, those thru ~#110 are looking fairly secure for conditional status (125) NOTABLES with no safety net (except career money exemptions for some), thus at risk of not making FULL EXEMPT STATUS (Top-100) include: *(In Austin Champ) *101 - Mackenzie Hughes *110 - Chris Kirk *118 - Rasmus Hojgaard *119 - Neal Shipley *131 - Joel Dahmen The following are at risk 100, but have Career money exemptions available if they need/choose to use them *97 - Billy Horschel-CME 100 - Jason Day-CME *111 - Lucas Glover-CME *155 - Matt Kuchar-CME 177 - Webb Simpson-CME

LIV Golf Players - Can they go to the PGA Tour and When? Here's the PGAT version of the DPWT list... Bottom line first: Out of 8 players with potential status on the PGAT, Only 2 or 3 of them have any reasonable path to playing on the PGAT in the near/mid-term. Details... The PGAT has stated that future year winners exemptions earned thru the 2026 season will be honored on the Championship Series if those exemptions are still intact in 2028 or beyond. The below assumes that will also apply to returning LIV players (although that is NOT a 100% certainty) Only DeChambeau, Rahm and Smith have any kind of winners exemptions still alive in 2027. That's IF they can work a "Koepka like" deal with the PGAT to play in 2027. But if they can't and have to sit out a year, then Cam Smith's 2022 OPEN exemption will expire before he can use it... and we'd be down to Rahm and Bryson. There are another 5 with potential PGAT access via career top-25/50 money exemptions - Phil, DJ, Garcia, Bubba and CH3... BUT THERE'S A CATCH... that effectively restricts them from using them for 2027-28. As the criteria has been released so far, the NEW 2028 PGA Tour structure is going to allow a one-time use of a "Career Milestone" exemption on the Championship Series... BUT you must have played 15 events on the PGAT to use it for 2028. Assuming these 5 players are suspended for a year... they can't get to 15 events in 2027... so they can't use the career money exemption in 2028. For any of the 5 who could qualify for the Championship Series another way... this Career Milestone would likely still be in place to use later. Lifetime Membership (20+ PGAT wins) is/was another path in the current system. But there is no mention of that category continuing in the 2028 PGAT... so far at least. So for all but 2 or 3... it appears the rest are back to re-earning their way back to the PGAT via any of the new pathways... DPWT, Challenger Series, KFT, Q-schools, etc.
Ex-LIV Golf Players - Projected DPWT Status (and other smaller tours) This UPDATED chart is broken into two main parts... 1) Those with known DPWT status for 2027, plus Q-School potentials • Current Members fully exempt • Players with DPWT Category Status available • Final Stage Q-school participants. 2) Players without 2027 DPWT status at this time... but eligible for DPWT's Guaranteed Sponsor Exemption program. Also where known, status for smaller tours is noted. The note in yellow is important to this section. ALSO: Potential PGAT status is being addressed in a separate post I'll put up a bit later. HINT: Lots of detail and small print in this... so open image in new tab and expand for better readability.

As a companion to the DPWT access for LIV Players below, here's a recap of potential PGA Tour access. LIV Golf Players - Can they go to the PGA Tour and When? Short answer first: Very few of them can... 8 at most... and there's big questions surrounding most of them. Bryson, Rahm and Cam Smith have potential major winning exemptions... but if there is any suspension, Cam may not be able to use his as it expires after 2027 Phil, DJ, Garcia, Bubba and CH3 "might" have some exemption remaining for career top-25/50 money... BUT WAIT... the new category rules for 2028 and beyond complicate things considerably. So assuming they have a 1 year suspension,it's gonna be hard to use that exemption, especially right away. The best pathway to PGAT for the above 5 is probably DPWT in 2027... Read the notes in yellow... Like I said... it's Complicated. PS, If I've missed anything here... please let me know.
LIV Golf Players - Where Do They Go in 2027? With today's story RE LIV Golf winding down... thought I'd revamp my prior Leaving/Staying commitment list into a "Where Can They Go in 2027" list. Disclaimer: We don't know for sure what access to PGA Tour any of these players might have next year. Nor do we have all the details how all the categories will work for 2028 and which players have access to them. So this chart EXCLUDES any PGAT exemptions except for brief mention of Rahm and Bryson's possible status for their 2023-24 majors. Otherwise... As it turns out... 19 LIV players are in good shape for DPWT Status next year, 1 more for Staysure Legends Tour, and 6 more currently playing final stage Q-school for status. But things are a lot more questionable for the remaining 32 in the bottom section, and those that don't get thru Q-school. Some are being offered a guaranteed Sponsor Exemption program on the DPWT, but beyond a few obvious ones, we don't know for sure all who will be included. It's assumed all likely have some level Asian Tour status. And a few more likely have Korean, Japan, PGTI or other minor tour status.

Welp... never let it be said Luke Elvy is not willing to go down with the sinking ship...
If only Jay Monahan & the establishment didn’t reject a Life Member (Greg Norman) & the Saudi PIFs original desire to co-exhaust they’d be bathing in $5 billion, instead it’s in the pockets of the players. Oh well, let’s call it what it is - a colossal fuck up by the PGAT & DPWT!

There are certain players I won’t question their golf integrity. Rory is one of those. He once gave himself a worse lie after a fan picked up his ball. This is a non issue (with Rory anyway)

Wait... LIV 3.0... ???
PLOT TWIST: some players have, overnight, rushed back to the negotiating table with BC, I'm told. But the PIF-imposed deadlines have been blown and unclear if any more rope going to be extended. Let's see what LIV-- which is the official debtor--- tells court today at 11:30am.

IMO it's just the opposite.. it elevates Rory... it's all in how the player reacts to it... and I love the way he owned up to it completely. If Bryson would have acted similarly at the Open, he'd have been praised instead of derided. (PS... and if this is a signal golf is gonna start to crack down on these things... then wonderful)
Doh, this is a bad look for Rory. Will Rory catch appropriate flak for this, or will we overlook it cuz people like him? Can you imagine if this was Patrick Reed or Bryson?
