Despite leaving the league when his contract was fulfilled in September 2025, Greg Norman will always be the face of LIV Golf to many. I caught up with the Shark yesterday to chat about his time at LIV, the successes, the regrets, his thoughts on the bankruptcy filing, and what he’s up to now. “I’ve been having a lot of fun, mate. I’m back to what I do best, finding new opportunities, starting new entities and the staples of golf course design and real estate. I’ve got no plans to slow down.” Greg left his position as CEO and Commissioner of LIV Golf last year. Less than 12 months later and the organisation has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. He gave his thoughts on that: “I think everyone could see it coming. Chapter 11 gives them some flexibility and it’s logical after the financing from PIF stopped. They say they want a sustainable business model, but what does that mean? I’m sure Scott has it in hand.” Greg says that since his departure, he’s had “little communication” with the new CEO, which he finds “interesting.” He also said the business was tracking “extremely well” when he left and there were huge opportunities in the future that were recommended but not taken. He didn’t go into detail on what they were, but he did say he was really bullish on the future of the franchise model. There was a plan to hand the running of the teams over to national bodies, citing the example of a Japanese team potentially being run by the Japan Golf Tour. This would have given all authority to the governing body, allowing selection of players and the value created would then have been put back into the golf eco-system of that country. After Scott O’Neil was announced as the new CEO, he gradually replaced the executive team hired by Greg. I asked him about that: “There’s a difference between a leader and a boss. I installed vision and belief and hired really impressive people, from just me to hundreds of staff who all believed in the vision. We faced tremendous headwinds, but we advanced because the vision was embedded in the staff. “I wore three different hats at LIV. I was an experienced player who was number 1 in the world and understood the professional golf landscape. I understood brand building. And I’d run my own companies and had a lot of knowledge.” He went on to say: “Many of the staff still stay in touch. They’re wonderful people. I always said ‘I’ll let you fail, but I’ll never let you be a failure.’ We were building the plane on the runway, but I had to let them go and do their thing. They had an unlimited budget, but I couldn’t allow them to lose control. We had a great working relationship and they called for advice after I left, which meant a lot. Min Woo Lee was asked yesterday at the Presidents Cup if he’d like to see an International Women’s team: “Yeah. I would love that. Obviously my sister plays golf, so it would be nice to have her on the team and me on the team. But I think it would be very fun. “It would make it interesting, for sure. Obviously there's things that have to be measured with the girls and the guys. But even just the best ball, like mixed best ball, mixed foursome would be unbelievable. Justin Thomas is paired with rookie Jackson Koivun today at the Presidents Cup. Justin has taken Jackson under his wing this week, and he spoke about the relationship ahead of the first day of action: “Yeah, he's impressive. He's a really, really good player, first and foremost, but he's a great kid. He's got his head on right. Hats off to his parents; they've done an unbelievable job. He's very, very mature for his age. I think that's something you can't -- none of us could instill in him in a week. “I think the fact that he has the maturity and the correct outlook on everything, he's obviously really competitive and he's obviously really talented. I'm excited for him this week. After JJ Spaun’s impressive victory at the BMW PGA Championship, he said he felt like he had something to prove and had “imposter syndrome” after winning the US Open in 2025: “I believe this year was a tough year for me because internally I was fighting all these expectations of being a worthy Major Champion. “I felt like I still had to prove to everyone that I wasn't a fluke and I wasn't some money-in-the-bottle Major Champion. You hear things about that, and it kind of eats inside a little bit. I put way too much pressure on myself to start the year. “But once I kind of stopped caring so much, I mean, I know it's easy to say that, I mean obviously but that was kind of mantra all last season. That's why I played so well. I was on the verge of losing my job in 2024 and then I backdoored it to keep it, and I was like, Oh, this is house money, I wasn't even supposed to be here in 2025. That sort of attitude, along with obviously skill and developing and playing good, that was a breakout year. “And then here we are back in January and I'm back to this ball of pressure and expectation and thinking I have to be this perfect golfer and to validate whatever I did in 2025. “Once I kind of let go of that and stopped caring what other people think or what the media thought of me, I started relaxing and playing better. Then I won in San Antonio, and then once I won in San Antonio, okay, I'm pretty content with everything I've done. If I were to die tomorrow, I'd feel like I have. “It was just getting over that hump of expectation and mindset that I had last year and I started playing better. Like this week, I didn't have a ton of expectation. I couldn't play the Tour because I woke up with a stiff neck and couldn't turn it. So I had two weeks to get ready for this and I did it. “Sometimes no expectation is the best thing to have.” In JJ’s last 2 seasons he’s won his first major, won again on the PGA Tour, won the DP World Tour’s flagship event and finished runner up to Rory McIlroy at The Players Championship. 26 year old Jacob Bridgeman shot a bogey free 61 to win the Biltmore Championship on the PGA Tour by 2 shots over Ben James. It’s Jacob’s second win of the season and sends him into next week’s Presidents Cup in brilliant form.

24 year old Charlotte Heath from England shot rounds of 68, 65 and 73 to win the La Sella Open by 2 shots over Alessandra Fanali and Alice Hewson. It’s Charlotte’s maiden LET victory in her rookie season after earning status via the LET Access Series in 2025. Joaco Niemann has won more events on the LIV Golf League than any other player, but he still does not know what the future holds and says he has not yet committed to the 2.0 version. Speaking after a final round 72 to finish T21 at the BMW PGA Championship, I asked Joaco if he was on the LIV player call with CEO Scott O’Neil a few days ago: “No, I wasn’t… he does the calls every week and I've been playing tournaments the last few weeks. So I just don't want to get my head in something different. So I’ll probably go back and get in touch.” When asked if he has committed to LIV Golf 2.0, Jaoco said, “no, nothing yet.” And followed up on whether he knows any of the details of what 2027 may hold for the league: “I have no idea. I mean, I wish to say something but I have no idea.” Joaco is currently playing DP World Tour events on sponsor exemptions and he cleared up the confusion around his status on the tour: “I'm suspended because I didn't play the minimum last year. With that being said I cannot be an affiliate member (in 2026), so that will be next year, unless I win.” And on what his schedule holds for the rest of year, Jaoco said: “I'm going to have some time off in Chile, work a little bit on my game, spend some time with the family and get ready for the new season.” His next event will be at the Australian Open at Kingston Heath in December, the second event of the 2027 DP World Tour schedule.

JJ Spaun birdied 4 of his last 5 holes for a final round 67 to win the BMW PGA Championship by 2 shots over Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Aaron Rai and Manuel Elvira. Elvira came to last needing a par for a playoff but finished a double bogey 7. It’s JJ’s maiden DP World Tour victory and he did it in the flagship event at Wentworth.

Andy Sullivan played his last 7 holes in 5 under par to shoot a final round 64 at the BMW PGA Championship. I watched him play the final stretch and the support he had at Wentworth was unreal, so I asked him about it after: “I'm a lucky guy. Obviously, they've not cottoned on that I'm an absolute wanker,” he joked. “They seem to love me. So yeah, it's great. It's always nice when I play in the UK. I always get a really good following, especially when you get days like this and get them going a little bit.” Andy is currently 8th on the Race to Dubai standings and firmly in position to potentially earn a PGA Tour card at the end of the season. He spoke about how important it is to earn one this season with all the changes coming in 2028: “It’s a good problem to have if I get it. It wasn't on the radar at the start of the year, so, if it happens, it's a great bonus, but we'll see. “For me, like I said, it's just about I want to be getting back in the majors again and playing with, the likes of Tyrell and Rosey and Rory. You know, that's the goal. You want to test yourself against the best and that's where I want to be.” @DPWorldTour @BMWPGA

Rory McIlroy finished birdie, eagle, including hitting his approach to the last stone dead, to shoot a 3rd round of 69 and climb within 2 shots of the lead at the BMW PGA Championship. If he finishes solo 2nd tomorrow or better, he will over take Patrick Reed on the Race to Dubai. After the round, he spoke about the opportunity he has: “I have a big opportunity tomorrow on both front. I'd love to win this tournament again. It's been a long time, 12 years. “I have so many great memories of Wentworth in general. I came here for the first time as a 10-year-old to watch The World Match Play all the way back in the day, and I came in -- it was always half-term. I always came with my mum and dad and watched this one. “Fast forward, I've won this event. I've played a lot here and we now have a house on the estate as well. This place has a lot of history for me. Hopefully I have a good chance and give myself a real chance at it again.” The leaderboard is absolutely stacked at Wentworth with 25 players within 5 shots of the lead heading into the final round. With a gettable back 9 and 2 x par 5s to finish, it’ll no doubt be the dramatic finish the DP World Tour’s flagship event deserves. I can’t wait.

Haotong Li is playing the first event of the PGA Tour fall series to try to regain full status for 2027. Today he shot a 10 under par 61 to climb inside the top 10. After the round, he was asked what he’s trying to achieve over the next few weeks: “I just try to survive. This is my first year on fall category or here and I just try to keep my card and do something solid finish, and hopefully I can play more golf in America.” Haotong played the last 4 weeks on the DP World Tour, recording top 20s in his last 2 events. I think it’s a real shame he, alongside Marco Penge, are not at Wentworth this week, but I fully understand why they are playing at the Biltmore Championship instead. Hopefully the scheduling can be worked on as negotiations continue for the strategic alliance between the PGA and DP World Tours to avoid these kind of clashes in the future.

So I told you guys that I had a pro bag for the @dunhilllinks this year. I have his permission to share and it's Richard Bland. Richard won his first DP World Tour event at the 2021 British Masters, aged 48, at his 478th attempt. The oldest first time winner in the history of that tour. Four hundred and seventy eight times he turned up and didn't win. Then he did. A month later he shared the lead of the US Open after two rounds, the oldest man ever to do it. And in 2024 he won two senior majors in the same summer. The Senior PGA Championship and the US Senior Open. I have to say a big thanks to my good friend Paul for recommending me for the job. So as I said to Richard, the job is the job. That's obviously getting my focus and attention. I'll share what I can with you guys including the prep. The 3 days before the tournament are the practice days. That's where I'll get my first proper look at his game close up. I'm really looking forward to it. And have hopes of making the cut. Patrick Reed currently leads the Race to Dubai and not only does he have the chance to become the second American ever to win the title, he can also do it by beating Rory McIlroy, who he’s had a big rivalry with over the years. Ahead of the BMW PGA Championship, he said he is relishing the opportunity: “I mean... just to finish number one would be amazing. I know it's not gonna be easy, because I have a guy like Rory, who’s right on my tail right now. So, it's always fun anytime I get to battle out with Rory. It's always a blast, and you always have to go out and play solid golf. “I definitely wouldn't mind making him wait one more year to beat the record,” he said with a smile, “but, it's only a matter of time, right? He's gonna do it, and I wouldn't mind making him wait one more year.” Patrick shot a 4 under par 68 in the first round at Wentworth to currently sit one shot ahead of Rory, who shot 69. Alex Fitzpatrick began the year with a goal to earn his highest finish on the Race to Dubai. But after an incredible 2026, his new goal is to make the 2027 European Ryder Cup team. Alex was invited to a scouting trip at Adare Manor on Monday alongside some of the European team stalwarts. I asked him about the experience ahead of the BMW PGA Championship: “It was unbelievable. I'm incredibly fortunate to have been selected to go. So, that was a really cool thing for me to experience being around a small group of people who would play. Yeah, it was just an incredible experience. “That place is pretty sweet, the condition, the course, was absolutely off the charts. And it was really cool. We played in little four balls, and being there with my brother, was also a really cool experience. So, yeah, it was a fun trip.” His brother Matt has played in 4 Ryder Cups and he played with Alex in a fourball match at Adare Manor on Monday that they came out on top against Bob MacIntyre and Sepp Straka, with Matt going for the early handshake while the ball was way short of the hole. When asked if he and Alex would make a good team, Matt cut the question short and said, “Yes. We're on a good run at the minute,” with a smile. Alex’s career has taken off since winning the Hero Indian Open on the DP World Tour in March. He says he puts his success this season down to finally getting over the line: “I think my season has gone about as good as it possibly could do. You know, I think my win in India really helped. It really kind of kickstarted the whole year for me, to be honest. “I think I have always carried a bit of a burden in trying to win on the European Tour, and that was something I think I was so desperate to deal with. I think it probably hindered me in some ways, and I think to get that kind of weight off my shoulders allowed me to kind of play with a bit more confidence, and I really felt like I took that on and made the most of my opportunities that came with it. It’s been an amazing year, so no complaints.” So, after his incredible 2026 where he finished T4 at the Tour Championship on the PGA Tour, earned his first win both sides of the Atlantic and has climbed to 56th on the OWGR, does he have a new target of making Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup side next year? “Yeah, absolutely. 100%.” @FitzAlex99 @DPWorldTour @BMWPGA
